I am looking at getting a Lenovo laptop for work and was wondering how their support compares to the likes of Dell (we have good experiece with their support in the past)?

Does anyone have an opinion of them for their local support?

Tech support. Like if there is hardware failure. What would their response time if I needed something replaced? Do they do onsite etc?

I had a Lenovo and my hard drive failed 3 months after I got it. They were quick to ship me a new one and sent a courier to pick up the dead one after I tried to get someone to do data recovery on it. So Im very happy with it.

I was not impressed. Waited 3 weeks for a motherboard for my laptop and it was only 9 months old.
Had to complain directly to Lenovo support manager, and suddenly a motherboard was available and installed the next day.

Thanks for the replies!

Seems you both had two very different experiences then. I will need to think on it more...

What spec are you aiming for ? I believe there are other alternative.

My Lenovo Y5070 had a key come off within two hours, wootware sent the laptop off to partserve, took partserve 4 days to decide that it's a manufacturing fault (I personally dropped it off at their offices) and another two days to communicate it to wootware.

Partserve is not great. I haven't had a problem with the laptop since though, running fine for over a year, I travel near daily.

I don't know how their service is, but I bought a Y5070 from a local Computer Retailer. The laptop had a round white spot about 1.5cm in diameter in the lower right corner of the screen straight of the box. They replaced my laptop with a new one within a few days. Haven't had any issues with it since.

Only thing that puts me off is the price of RAM. I had to fork out R1000 for a 4GB RAM module since only the ones from Lenovo seems to be compatible.

Really? I bumped up my RAM by 8GB on my Y5070 using this: http://www.wootware.co.za/g-skill-f...3l-9-9-9-28-204pin-1-35v-notebook-memory.html
It's R799, was R599 when I bought it before rand dropped.

Well that's good to know. Unfortunately I live in a town where you have to take what's available, but I have to upgrade the RAM to 16GB since 8GB is not doing the job for what I'm using it for.

I have 16GB, the laptop comes with 8GB and there are only two DIMM slots...

Y5070 will not make laptopfan happy, is a cheapo one, not an AORUS grade. :)

As for support, it would be better for Lenovo to chose someone different than Partsserve. I like Lenovo very much, but in South Africa they have to work with partners. I haven't got much exposure to Gigabyte laptops, but their desktop motherboards and graphics cards are top quality and support from Rectron was always very good.

You know me well lol.

Rectron after sales service is one of the best in the country , and Gigabyte uses them for servicing. Thus Gigabyte NB is definitely a good alternative.
