Leonardo diCaprio: perhaps the most underrated actor?

After watching the gripping and brilliant "Inception" this past weekend and previously watching "Shutter Island" and "Blood Diamond", I've come to the conclusion that Leonardo diCaprio is the most underrated actor right now. Who agrees and who disagrees? Post your thoughts.
 
I have not seen INCEPTION yet, but I must agree. Leo is talented and has proven over and over that his range is wide. Blood Diamond, Gangs of New York, Catch me if you can etc. Proves that his has the ability to play any part with conviction. The "boy" needs some more silver on the mantle piece (Oscar etc).

I plan to go watch Inception before the weekend and after seeing the trailer last week. I am sure I will once again enjoy the experience.
 
Brilliant actor. Have always rated him since his performance in What's Eating Gilbert Grape. Excellent performance in The Departed.
 
I do like the recent stuff, but every time I think of him I think of Titanic, and that makes me want to avoid anything with him in it.
That being said, I have really enjoyed every one of his recent movies (but I just keep thinking it's the irritating girly-boy from Titanic when I watch them :()

Titanic, Blood Diamond and The Beach are 3 films of his I try, with much effort, not to reflect back upon. Hated him in all 3. Bored me or annoyed me dumb.
 
The only crap movie Leo has made was Titanic, that movie was crap because of all the romantic bull****... but was still an epic movie.

The rest of his movies are brilliant.
 
No way on FSM's green hollow earth is Leo underrated. Have you seen his awards and box office figures? His recent co-star Joseph Gordon Levitt can be considered as such.
 
He is a great actor. I loved him in Titanic and thought he was brilliant in Catch me if you can. I think people might not take him very serious as an actor because of his youthful appearance. Just an observation.
 
I don't think it's a case of being underrated as most of us know that he's a very good actor. I think it's more a case of us (and I mean guys here :D) trying to undermine him because all the ladies dig him.

It's the same with guys like Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp - they're very good most of the time, but we just don't want to admit it :P
 
Excellent movie, and 'ol Leo is a seriously good actor. Really versatile...

One of the best movies I've seen.
 
Yep, he is good. Not his fault but his boyish looks have hindered him. Hard to take him as seriously as the greats like Pacino, de Niro, Brando.
 
I think it's good that he's underrated, otherwise the more you blow wind up their backsides then it seems they get a little worse for wear in terms of choosing more challenging roles. Though he is a really good actor!
 
Leo was phenomenal in "What's eating Gilbert Grape" and "The Basketball Diaries". After that, he did some sub-par stuff like "Romeo and Juliet" and "Titanic". Even Catch Me didn't really impress me, but hopefully he's maturing and picking parts that he can shine in, like Johnny Depp does
 
Am I the only one that noticed?

Simply the rule of inverse proportion taking effect - the less pretty he becomes the more people notice his acting ability. Another 10 years & 20 kg from now and people will be comparing him to Jack (Nicholson, not Daniels).
