I think it does make a difference - Mine also went straight to the desktop before I re-installed.
@Bwana, have you checked Grab's preferences? I remember I also had a hassle finding the bloody things and eventually found them in user/documents - then changed it to save on the desktop.
No joy
Mine used to but not anymore - in fact it doesnt seem to be even making the file
It works if I use Grab.app but I like to be able to do it from the keystroke.

Try Command-Shift-3 as an alternative or Command-Shift-4, release it and then press the space bar. Move the camera to the area you want to capture, and then enter. Try this and let us know.

What messages do you get?
Thats pretty severe. Quick question - are you sure the grab is not going to the clipboard?

Haha, yeah it was a real long shot.
It seems you are not the only person experiencing this though. Quite strange.
Are all the messages in console similar to the one posted as I am guessing that error message is a symptom, not the real problem.

I can never remember the key combination so I just use Grab.app to get my screenshots.
Mine was a fresh install as well up until I used the migration assistant.
