Another travel/tourism thread :)

So I'm thinking of surprising the SO with a 2 day stay in Lesotho for her birthday next month.

Does anyone have any good recommendations of where to stay? (Tripadvisor didn't help, booking.com doesn't know Lesotho).

I'm keen to visit a place with a spa (for the SO) but also close to San rock paintings / dinosaur imprints / Katse dam.

Anyone know of accommodation that's kind of central to these three places?

Thanks!

Apparently Lesotho has some of the best puff around ;d

there are 2 sun internationals in maseru which is the capital of Lesotho(maseru sun & Lesotho Sun), just approx. 16km from the sa town Ladybrand which has some nice lodge. try google cranberry cottage in ladybrand. and then u can just drive across the next day to katse dam.

Ive always wondered, why is this country in the middle of SA ? I mean why

Beware of the roads. There is a piece from the freestate side that is not bad... From sani's side it's rather bad.

Cranberry is an AWESOME place.

Was working out timing etc, and it seems Kotse Dam is another 3 hours drive from Fouriesburg! Will be too much to do in a day, so probably need a stopover in Fouriesburg, Clarens or Ladybrand...

Maseru is not much to look at. Lesotho is really backward so be warned. Staying it a place like Ladybrand or Golden Gate may be preferable.

Don't only make a short trip to Katse Dam up and down, rather go all around passing Thaba Tseka and pass also the Mohale Dam to Maseru. If possible, visit also the stunning Lebihan or Maletsunyane falls, a 192 drop in a very scenic valley near Semonkong. Probably still stiff frozen. A place that you actually should see in the middle of the rainy season and in mid winter. This will definitely take more than a day. Not a country for the ones who like multistar accomodation and perfect paved roads. Know Lesotho quite well, lived there for some years, among others working for the LHWP, the Lesotho Highlands Water Project. Still only live a few K's from the border.
