Yaaay! lets compare some prices from US against South Africa!
[sorry for this, i just need to vent a bit ;)]

Ok our first contender!

The PNY GeForce GTX 570 Video Card!

US ONLINE TIGER DIRECT STORE:

United States Tiger Direct Online Price: $349.99
Price In Rands (Windows 7 Gadget): R2 437.30
Shipping to 0062 (pretoria) : $36.83

So for the graphics card, as well as worldwide UPS Shipping we come to a total cost of $386.82.
This is R2 693,73 for everything, provided it may take an extra day or two to get here.

South African Wootware online Store

Currently, i can barely find anyone in South africa with stock, the only one is Wootware which sells the Inno3D version (almost all of them are same price and reference cards)

South African Wootware online Price: R 3,710.00
Shipping from: R 59.00 (2-4 Days)

So there we have it, to buy and ship a GTX 570 Locally is going to cost you R3769.00 and to Ship one all the way from United states will cost you only R2 693,73!

THAT MEANS YOU SAVE R1 075.27! YAY!

the only downfall i can see from ordering online is if you Need to RMA it, they might pay for the shipping but im not sure.

U.S is a huge market, this is piss willy S.A. with distribute the wealth guavamunt policies, you're comparing apples and cabbages.

Another pointless thread. If its cheaper in the US, then buy it in the US. When you get it you decide whether its that much cheaper and worth the effort.

Go. Go NOW. Come back when you have it.

So a lone user who buys 1 has more buying power than many south african companies who get the product at cost?

Heard of economies of scale?

just fyi, i did order it, they said it will be here in 5 days or the moday (no delivery on Weekends)
you can say all you want, ill laugh all the way to the bank with my R1000...

So in other words the entire purpose of this thread is for you to brag about saving R1000? Well done, we all think you're super cool now

R1000 gets me a Nandos meal.

Pointless thread is pointless

Are there no import duties?

Apparently not. He also does not seem to have to deal with customs during the festive season since he's getting it in five days.
Oh.. and whats the moday? Is it something like Movember? If it means he's going to wait until he has a mo then thats realistic since he sounds 16..

You'll probably pay R500 duties = 0.14*R2500(vat) + R150 fee for courier to broker if you are lucky.
else maybe R800, depending on how the "official" feels.

But keep us updated.

Yes, I'm very excited! Daily tracking updates plz! And tell us what you get with the extra R1000 (minus import tax) too

Why all the negativity about this thread?

Please let us know how this works out and if they charge you import duties. Might be worth using these guys if it works out that much cheaper.

Cause there are too many people on these forums who think they know everything about everything and love slamming people whenever these said people start a new topic regarding something that these accused slammers already know apparently everything about.

So if you ever think you have found an awesome deal or think you've made a mind boggling breakthrough first confirm with aformentioned kings of knowledge whether it will be ok to post without tons of negative feedback :)

P.S I'm curious to see if they will charge and if so how much on import duties

Because the OP will be posting in a few months time bitching that his stuff has popped and slamming said manufacturer for their crap they "sold" him and slamming any local supplier that brings the stuff in and that there's no company in S.A. that will honour the warranty and that it's going to cost X amount and he has to wait X weeks for his crap to be sorted out.

Is that reason enough for you?

Let's compare. The extra R1000 is for the awesome service you receive in SA :D I just bought a Canon product so let's look at the added SA value I received...For example, phone the 0800-tards support number for Canon in SA, then bang head against desk. Then phone Canon support in Europe to speak to professionals. Or it could be for the scratches the guy with the box-cutters applies to your product when applying the ICASA stickers. Or the really expensive website Canon SA put together which after one or two pages deep simply directs to Canon-Europe (thankfully :D) Hmm, so much value with the SA gravy mark-up :D

This thread is gonna be so worth watching. Cannot wait to see the outcome. Here is hoping that customs ain't her usual evil self...

It is quite scary how often I revert to the international support desks when dealing with these multinational companies. So much easier to e.g. have a live internet chat with some dude in Canada or calling the VISA 1800 number - once had a nice long chat with a dude there that was able to help me without the whole explain whole story to person #1 ... eh, transferring your call sir ... explain to person #2 ...please hold *dropped call* - but I'm over exaggerating now to some degree.

Edit:
@DUDE, I have to ask, did you have to Wire them the monies?
