So I have myself an HTC TyTN. I use it for browsing and downloading emails occasionally. Now here is my question, when the little H appears to signify it is in HSDPA mode so to say, what speed should it be downloading at?

Will this speed be different if I decide to use the TyTN as a modem?

On MTN in the Woodmead,Johannesburg region if it helps.

If i'm not mistaken, you should see a max peak speed of either 3.6 or 1.8mbps... As far as i know, when you connect it to your pc, you should still see those max speeds. It's more likely, though, that you'll see about 70% of the speeds i just mentioned.

Without paying the extra R49 (which you arent by the looks of things) you should be getting peak speeds of 1.8Mbps depending on your coverage etc

Well, if you have a Tytn and not a Tytn II then you can only get a max of 1.8Mbps (around 230 KB/s). With a Tytn II, if you pay the R49 subscription and your tower has enough back haul you can get up to 3.6Mbps (around 460 KB/s).

Using the phone as a modem shouldn't decrease the speed, although I haven't used a Tytn myself so I don't speak from experience.

When using the phone as a modem, the speed should be the same, but this could depend on the type of connection. Generally, a USB connection is much better than BlueTooth.
