Let's talk Cologne

guys must check clicks they have markdowns on some perfumes

i got a diesel bad intense for R570 for the 50ml. Saved like R400

Versace Eros
Armani Code Profumo
Diesel bad intense

have others but those are the current favourites

apparently the tom ford oud is good
Yes most of Tom Ford's fragrance are a cut about the rest. But, so is the price.
I have quite a collection and I can say that its worth every penny.

With that being said, Oud Wood is an extremely nice fragrance. I have stopped purchasing designer perfume (99% of what you get in Edgars or Red square or any of these famous franchises)

The longevity of a niche fragrance over a designer fragrance is also much better and projection is also much greater.

Currently using Versace Eros (Blue) and Valentino Uomo.

What's your take on Valentino Uomo?
Anyone else have it or the Uomo Intense?

I've been eyeing them out, both seem to be a good stand-in for Dior Homme/Dior Homme Intense?

I have Uomo Acqua and it's good, all the Valentino offerings seem high quality, Chanel/Dior level.

Uomo Acqua 75ml R719

Has anyone tried the Armaff range?

I have Mont Blanc Explorer which is my favourite currently. I haven't got deep enough pockets for Creed Aventus, although reviews of recent batches have not been that great. I would like to try Club De Nuit Intense Man as it supposed to be a good clone of Aventus, and performs better.

I have CDM Intense, it's good but a little one dimensional, I've never smelt the original though but I can imagine it has a lot more depth to it.

haha yes it is rather expensive and I dont want to justify the price but it really is a niche fragrance and once you try the range, i doubt you will ever be able to look at any designer fragrance (Your typical Edgars fragrances)

I also need to add that any fragrance which contains "oud" is expensive. The projection and longevity of any Tom Ford product is really a cut above the rest. But yes, it is quite a pricey brand.

This statement hardly holds true for majority of fragrance lovers. There are lots of designer fragrances that are up there with the niche ones, and some of them already have "classic" status without being niche. More so, unless you have unbounded financial clout, there are moments you don't always need a very expensive niche fragrance, like when you go out jogging or about to retire at the end of the day after your evening shower.

You are spot on. Just remember that not all "niche" fragrances aren't always more expensive. You can find great deals if you look at houses like Mancera or Montale etc.

I have a few designer fragrances which i also use, like you say, after a shower being around home etc.
But if i am looking for something really special, ill rather look at something a little more niche. It also is less popular and different.

True, although I have neither tried Mancera nor Montale yet. Actually, the only bottle in my collection that I consider niche is the Aventus. I'm looking at getting a bottle of one of Serge Lutens' scents by the end of the month.

Yes, the point of niche is personalisation, being different and unique (borrowing from the way earlier perfumers created exclusive scents for royals).

hahaha nope I have not yet tried any LV fragrances but i also don't have the R15k + for a bottle either.

But, ill definitely make a plan to test them and let you know what the outcome is.

LOL, yes, hahah shower no shower will be able to wash off being from the dirty south here in JHB.
Its just became a bit of a habit putting on some EDT or EDP after a shower.

Yesss i must say that Aventus smells nice and fresh. I tried a few from the house of Creed and can say that its in the same category as TF.

Very interesting what you say about where the niche range started. I didn't know that. There is an amazing shop in JHB central at the Oriental plaza which sells and stocks most perfumes around the world. Even if they don't have anything in stock, they will find it for you, and their prices are also good.

I go there maybe once every 3 months to see what they have and usually spend around R4k or so, and walk out with a couple of boxes. They also willing to negotiate their prices.

And no, I don't work for them or get any cut, but if your interested check for "R I O perfumes" and you should be able to find them. Well worth the effort.

I'm in Cape Town and the first fragrance purchase I made online in 2015 was from them (Grey Flannel by Geoffrey Beene, which is currently out of stock). I have also bought a couple of other scents from them, including the Aventus. I'll most likely buy from them again as they have never disappointed in any way.
