Hi folks,

Any advice on who I can contact with regards to letting our maid go ? I don't want to go into details, however I just need to speak to a reliable person/practice who is versed in labour law regarding domestic workers. I'm from PLZ, and it does not matter where the contact person is situated.

Thanks for any help.

Sorry, I can't afford you anymore, here's a months salary.

If she is good, ask friends if they need someone.

I think you just need to give her severance. You can check up on the government website.

1 week for every year
prorate leave
Notice pay 1 month
UIF up to date

Always await a call from CCMA, no matter the person they will go there and try screw you for more.

That should be minimum.

To the second point - not an issue if they illegaly in the country

I know someone who did this with a domestic worker that had worked for them for years. Gave her all the old appliances that still worked. Followed labour law to the letter! Paid her notice period, leave, and 1 week for the each of the 18 years of service. And even said to her that he would pay her 3 extra months salary (over and above what he was legally required to pay out in terms of retrenchment) if she didn't take him to CCMA.

1 month later he was sitting at the CCMA who found him in compliance with the law.
She phoned him a few weeks later wondering why the second extra month salary wasn't paid... she wasn't happy when he pointed out that it was on condition that she didn't pull the **** she pulled.

Was his house broken into shortly after? Was a trend we noticed. People let their maids go and normally within like 3 months they would get robbed.

Hahaha!
No this maid was well aware that this man has a Ridgeback that lives indoors and a 357 magnum that lives under his pillow, and his son who also lives in the house has his 9mm under his pillow too. I pity the fool who decides to break into their house.
