Lexus has finally taken the wraps of its new exclusive supercar – the 2011 Lexus LFA. “The LFA is a thoroughbred supercar, a machine engineered to achieve a single goal – to deliver a supreme driving experience,” said Chief Engineer Haruhiko Tanahashi.

Power for the rear-wheel-drive Lexus LFA, which is constructed using advanced carbon fiber technology, comes from a mid-front mounted 4.8L V10 engine that red lines at 9,000 rpm and makes 552-hp with a maximum torque of 354 lb-ft. Mated to a 6-speed Automated Sequential Gearbox, the LFA goes from 0-62 mph in just 3.7 seconds (0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds) with a top speed of 202 mph.
The Lexus LFA coupe will be produced at the Motomachi plant in Toyota City. Toyota will make just 500 examples at rate of 20 units per month “to ensure the finest build quality and attention to detail.”
The UK launch price for the LFA is €368,000 (approximately £336,000).

The price is insane...but the car is sexy.

The way that car's engine revs :) makes me happy!

Love the digital rev counter too!

This car killed the Lexus lead test driver - seriously.

Ehm, much in the same way a mercedes s280 killed Di or a Porsche 550 killed James Dean. Driver error...

Yea, its not really the car's fault he went and crashed it into a BMW.

Not worth the exorbitant price tag. For that much money you can easily get a 911 GT2 (and maybe even the GT2 RS).

Ya, bound to fail as far as I'm concerned. It costs too much, it looks hideously over-styled and it has zero brand value, in this kind of league anyway, when compared to the likes of Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche and so forth.

Saw this in TopGear on the weekend. Pretty radical.

Re the tester hitting a BMW. I once asked a Landrover Defender sales guy if it had safety features like crumple zones. He said, "Yes. The Defender manual calls refers to them as 'other cars'."

I think the uber rich in Middle East and Far East will buy them for their 'over-the-top-ness'. It makes it an instant classic and insane at the same time.

Hahaha, brilliant. :)

Sure, but that hardly qualifies it as noteworthy.. Many of the super-rich oil sheiks and whatnot are certifiably bat**** insane & although manufacturers of exotics no doubt appreciate their money, their notions hardly count in my books. ;)

Point a google towards either the Rainbow Sheik or the Sultan of Brunei if in doubt.

I'd be sensible and get a GT-R. Not a supercar but good enough for me.

If I had stratospheric money to spend on a whim, that whim would inevitably have a Porsche badge on the nose. That being said, thst Merc SLS-thingy... mmmmmmmmmm...

"That Merc SLS-thingy" is worse than the car it replaces. I'd rather have an SLR 722 without any hesitation or doubt.

Norrachance! I am not a Merc fan, but that car's styling just works for me. The SLR looks like it's got a penis slung down the bonnet. And the noise...

Sounds like Hulk gargling nails and bullets.

I can personally live without gullwing doors. IMO comparing SLS with SLR is like comparing SLK vs SL, sure, the former is smaller and lighter, and most probably say even looks better but in the end, the latter has 50 times more testosterone ;) Way more beastial than the SLS.

Don't be so sure:

Track - SLR - SLS AMG
Top Gear Track - 1:20.9 - 1:21.6
Nordschleife - 7:40 - 7:40
Hockenheim Short - 1:13.5 - 1:10.8

Sure, the 722 is a bit of an animal, but there will be (more) mental SLSs around in due course.

Just to be clear, I'd understand on the grounds of styling - that's subjective after all. But the SLS is no pretender to the SLR is no pretender when it comes to performance.
