LG DVD drive doen't read CD DISCs

Is this driver related problem? My H-L LG GSA-H21N reads DVD disc only can't seem to read CDs...
 
Firmware maybe. My dad has a DVD drive that can't burn CDs, even tough it should be able to.

I'd just take it back, cause if you mess up the firmware update then its gonna be a serious hassle to get it working again.
