LG DVD Writer Drive in Windows 7 cannot be started

Hi

Maybe someone can help, i can't seem to get my dvd writer to be read on my system anymore for some or other reason, it was working perfectly 2 days ago but now in device manager it says 'device can not be started (code 10)'

I have booted from the drive since i thought possibly the drive was faulty but to no avail.

Anyone else got an idea of how to make it work?

Can you boot Linux from an USB stick and see if Linux will recognize the DVD writer?

In my experience, LG CD/DVD units are best avoided as the performance of the unit tend to degrade over time.

+1 LG optical drives = major fail.

You can also try powering down the PC, unplug the sata/ide cable and power cable from the motherboard and drive unit. Power on the PC again and check that it's not registered in the Device Manager. Power off again, re-hook-up the power and data cables, then power on - go straight into the BIOS screens (Del or F2 depending on motherboard) and check that the drive is picked up - if you have the options of setting it to auto, then do this, other wise set it to the default as per your motherboard user guide. Save the BIOS settings and restart as normal. If Windows 7 can still not pick up or enable the drive, then rather replace it.
 
I agree with Libs, boot the system with Ubuntu Linux and see if you can use the DVD drive.
 
the system booted from a Windows 7 cd no problem.

I will try the ubuntu just now.

What is the best optical drive type to get then?
 
I worked on ubuntu (used the live cd to boot) and it booted perfectly with not a single error.

I moved the sata cable to another slot and same thing.

I have a cd emulator and it installs the emulator without a single problem.

Does anyone have an idea what else it could be?
 
ok its working yipee!!!

How does this happen?

I only deleted the upper filters, although i used the vista way of going into the registry cause it didn't show on the fix for win7

and then you said you had win7, and then you said you had a cd emulator.....

but it was working fine for how long and now suddenly it has troubles...

all i installed that was new was a oldish HP scanner.

But yeah lets see how long it will work for and thank you very much!
