Hi there
I'm using Alcohol, ISO maker, Nero etc....As from last week I noticed that I cannot write to anything except DVD's cd. If I insert a CDr it tells me to insert a disk or replace the writable disk?????
If I input my DVD Cd, it starts writing onto it. Is my LG busy packing up, or software, hardware problems???
Thanx
Chris

there are two beams one for DVDs and one for CDs - looks like the CD beam is off line, you can a cleaning disk but it looks like your CD days are over - if it is less than a year old tale it back

I had this problem with my LG GSA-H20L. Mine also sometimes refused to recognize CD-RW discs, particularly in Alcohol 120%. Later on it refused to write on DVD-RAM discs as well, reporting them as unknown media. No problems with DVD +/- R/RW/DL.

I was never able to fix it. I got 2 replacement drives, a GSA-H10N and a new (current) GSA-H20L, still the same.

I eventually bit the bullet and format/reloaded the machine after testing the new drive in another PC and it working flawless. Since the format/reload, no further issues. It's been around 9 months now, no problem. My guess is that XP SP2 went up the creek somewhere.

I hate reloading - to me it's a cheapass way to get around problems, but in my (and seemingly yours as well) case, it was the only solution that worked. I also couldn't find no help on forums. My advice is to go test it on a mates PC and see of it does the same, just to eliminate a possible hardware/device fault, such as the laser.

Hi there
Thanx for the help, will do so!!

Alcohol and Daemon Tools make my LG drive do that. Simply opening the Alcohol or Daemon app so that the virtual drive mounts fixes the disc reading issue.
