Hi all,

So I have a LG 400LT White Fridge Freezer.
There is nothing wrong with the unit itself, just the 'containers' that I need to replace as they are cracked and damaged.

Does anyone know whom I can contact that will be able to help me?

LG itself really is useless at replying.

Good luck, I have the exact same issue with Samsung. Can't help, locally.
Really..?

The Samsung walk in repair centre in tygervalley was able to help me with feet for my TV.. though I didn't buy them, cause they wanted 1k a piece (both feet being more than 10% what I paid for the TV) they had them available..

Yes, really. I am in need of two shelves for my Samsung refrigerator. It is two different parts. The Samsung store located in Somerset Mall was not able to provide any assistance. Though they did ask for me to leave my information for making an inquiry, which they never got back to. Having the same experience when trying to reach out to Samsung online. This is some time back already.

For now, I put a feeler out with the repair, spare parts stores, etc. Waiting for that call one day.

I won't be surprised if they feel that I am a dead sales lead for after care, out of warranty services. The prices of first party spares are insane. It is like they give you a soft prod into the direction of buying a new appliance. It just comes back to the issue of the right to repair, you know, self-maintenance.

I also had no luck with the Samsung stores in the malls, went to a few.. until one of them mentioned the walk-in repair centre in tygervalley..

None the less, if they were wanting me to pay 1k for a 10cm length of plastic bent, I shudder to think what they would ask for a single fridge shelf..

Hi there

1. LG Support:

  • South Africa LG Website: Visit their official site (https://www.lg.com/za ) and find their contact section.
  • Phone: Look up the LG South Africa support number for the quickest assistance.
  • Explain your model: Mention it's a LG 400LT White Fridge Freezer, and they can guide you to the exact part numbers you need.
2. Appliance Part Suppliers:

  • Search online: Try searching "[Your City] appliance parts" or "LG appliance parts South Africa" to find retailers in your area.
  • Call or visit: Contact them with your fridge model and describe the containers you need.
3. Online Retailers:

  • Amazon, eBay, etc.: Use your specific fridge model as the search term along with "replacement containers" or "storage bins."
  • Compare prices: Make sure to check shipping costs to South Africa, as these can vary.
I also found these additional tips

  • Have your exact model number ready: This will ensure you get the right fit. You can usually find it on a sticker inside the fridge.
  • Consider buying spares: If these containers tend to crack, order more than one to avoid future hassle.
Hope

If you're in Cape Town - contact LG Services Western Cape. They are the agents for the area. If you have your model number, their parts dept should be able to give you a price and availability over the phone.

By the way the reason why spare parts are so expensive from our korean friends, come from the way they do 'accounting' on the parts. Their companies are subdivided with divisions in divisions. All divisions need to make profit.

The service dept has to pay for their own costs and section of warehousing based on m2.
The parts all come in (all imported in dollars) at a certain cost. The koreans then add warehousing cost depending on how long the part has been on the shelf.

This seems counter-intuitive. Because it is. It effectively means you will ALWAYS pay more money for older parts. Unless you are lucky and the part is still being used by newer products (example: magnetron for microwaves).

This is compounded by the fact that people want (or so they want you to believe) product 'refreshes' every year.

Ok, I called them, pushed 1 - just rings - been trying all morning.
Have also sent a e-mail.

Use Google. You may have to import the part, eg from Ebay, Alibaba or even Korea. You can use a service like AGS for freight forwarding.

Otherwise just DIY a solution. It need not be pretty.

Most companies have expensive spare parts. But then one can buy generic parts or Chinese made parts.

Claremont home appliances
take a picture of the model number as they will need that. Guess taking the cracked unit will be helpful as well

Yes, as I just explained the real reason why LG and Samsung have expensive parts. You can try to gamble on importing, but you have no recourse once you receive the incorrect part. So you'll effectively be gambling.

You don't need the cracked unit. When you give the agents the model number, they type it into GSFS (the backend LG uses), this gives them access to the blown up blueprints and a list of available parts. As long as your model number and description is correct, you should (bar inventory errors) receive the right part.
