This tablet just became very interesting to me:

LG takes on the Nexus 7 with an 8-inch Google Play Edition tablet

LG's Nexus 5 smartphone made quite the splash, and now the Korean electronics manufacturer is back for more. For the same $349 you'd spend on the phone, you can now buy the LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition tablet. As you'd expect from the name, it's a tablet with stock Android 4.4, serving up KitKat on a 8.3-inch 1920 x 1200 Full HD IPS display with rather thin bezels. That "8.3" number doesn't just refer to the screen size, though, but also the fact that the tablet is just 8.3mm thick.

The whole kit is powered by a quad-core 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 system-on-chip, and comes with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, NFC and Bluetooth 4.0, dual-band 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, and dual cameras. With a 4600mAh battery inside, it weighs in at 338 grams. All in all, it's basically a larger Nexus 7 with a slightly speedier processor, a microSD slot, and a slightly less pixel-dense screen, that's also a little bit thinner and heavier thanks to its "premium aluminum casing." Costing over $100 more than the lauded Nexus 7, it might be hard to compete, but if you're looking for a slightly larger tablet with the feel of brushed aluminum, you now have another option from LG. The LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition is available today.

Been waiting for an affordable, decently specked 8" Android tab. This might be it. Only downside is it does not have a 3G option. Wonder if someone will bring it to SA.

I'm guessing nobody will bring it into SA but I can be proven wrong. Also saw that the Sony Experia Z Ultra is also on the play store now.

Looks like a pretty awesome tab though

Dammit Google!!!! The G Pad 8.3 was the perfect size IMO, the only problem I had with it was the bloatware. Oh well, I'm loving the Nexus 7, too bad that it isn't white :(

I ordered one from Kalahari. It was in stock and IIRC only R 4028. Waiting for delivery!

Cool, let us know how long you waited for delivery. I think the cheapest I've seen it so far was at loot.

Well what I would do is to take this tab and flash the Google Play ROM. As I did with my HTC One

I looked into it recently, looks like no one has been able to get it working so far. Check xda...

The problem is that GPE ROM won't have SD Card support, IR blaster support, LG camera specific features, etc. CM 11 miht be a good option though. I see there are nightlies for it.

Luckily it was in stock so dispatched in 1 working day. I ordered on Monday at 2PM and parcel was dispatched yesterday. Arriving today sometime.
Exciting stuff!
Please let us know what version of Android it came with and if there were any updates available for it.

Kalahari says 7 days depending on supplier now. I was dam lucky. Nice price at loot and half the delivery time.

Mine just arrived! Quick start says do not turn it on until fully charged for first time. Now I wait...

Nice surprise, it came with a VOIA flip case inside the LG packaging. There was no mention of a case anywhere, even in the international reviews.

Bit late, but got this from Loot in the week - includes VOIA flip case and screen protector
Awesome tablet !

Current version is 4.2.2
Read many reports that LG is skipping 4.3 and going straight to KitKat by end of March for a few of their devices. The G Pad 8.3 is on that list
You can also just root and go with CM11

Are you still happy with yours? Any problems such as random reboots etc? I am seriously considering one now.
