LG G Pad 8.3

Bought mine about a month ago at Loot for 1k more
Very happy with it and the price drop doesn't bother me ;-)

There was a VOIA flipcase and screen protector in the box - flipcase is $40 on Amazon

Nice surprise, it came with a VOIA flip case inside the LG packaging. There was no mention of a case anywhere, even in the international reviews.

Just received my gpad from kalahari at R2699!!! Just wait two months for future reverence. Nice tab!
 
Ah using the "LG Mobile support tool" it sees an update for my G Pad - "1237.91Mbyte" downloading... Must be kitkat. :D
 
Whoot!!!!!!!!! My G pad is now on Kitkat 4.4.2 (Software version V50020A).
 
Just checked and I see there is another OTA update available "v20d-jun-05-2014" looks like it could be a minor update to fix knock-on.
 
Became tired of the SD card problem with Kitkat. Not sure if it will get an official lollipop update. Decided to root my gpad.

Here is how, should anyone else be interested.

1. Download and run the towelroot apk: https://towelroot.com/ select "make it rain".
2. install super su https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.supersu&hl=en
3. reboot.
4. Install and run SDFix: KitKat https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix&hl=en

Hi, i'm currently considering this tablet (as an upgrade from a rather slugggish 2012 Nexus 7) but I'm hesitant to buy it since it is basically more than a year old. How would this tablet compare with other similar priced tablets currently at the +- R3000 price range?

This tablet is great for the price I paid (R2600). But if I were you I would look at newer tablets what would definitely get an official Lollipop update. I am not sure if this one will ever see it.

Yeah it's currently just under 3 grand at orange store. What tablet would you recommend instead?

Something with Lollipop (or that will definitely get it), at least 2gb RAM and 32GB on-board storage or expandable/external storage support.

I dont know. Probably Nexus 9 but perhaps wait a bit for Lollipop tablets to become mainstream /cheaper.
