LG G4

Yeah it is a difficult one. G4 is a much better looking phone for me than the S6 but all the reviews I've read, the s6 gets the nod ahead of G4.

Not that it matters now. Telkom doesn't have stock of either. But wife just picked up her G4 Beat now.

I have the S6 and the G4... get the G4.

Perhaps a quick summary of why you say that Fanie?

1. Better looking
2. Camera raw mode is awesome
3. Like you said, The S6 is just another samsung.
4. Battery Life
5. SD Card
6. Comes with the leather and the plastic back.

Look both are great phones, so its very close to call. Some might probably like the Samsung over LG, but I've had both, and I'm enjoying the G4 longer... it's just something different for a change.

Does LG and the G4 have a similar thing to Samsung and Knox security that if you root the phone they can pick that up and void/refuse warranty?

Wut? The phone has the worst endurance rating out of the current flagships on GSMArena (and 10 hours less than the G3 before it)

And my sister's dies about as fast as those numbers suggest.
Then there is something wrong with her phone. This battery life is most definitely better than the S6

Hmm, maybe I'm just comparing it too much to my Z3 which outlasts it by a long shot.
My sister usually has 20% left when she gets home which and then with a few minutes gaming that usually becomes 5% by the time she goes to bed. Which is just a little more than her old S3 was giving her which needed it's recharge around dinner time already.

So given that's what a 54hour GSMArena endurance rating gets you then the S6 which got around 70 hours should outlast it by a night and a few hours. Especially since Samsung claims they've since released updates which improve it even further.

But as I said, maybe I've lost perspective thanks to the Z3 which has far superior battery life compared to just about anything else and which is usually around 60% at the end of a day (though with different usage than my sister so likely less screen-on time).

I don't get the complaints about battery life either.
I get home with hight 60's after work.
and then I played about 6 games of ingenuous, sometimes even a game of hearthstone, or three and we know that app is TERRIBLE for battery life.

I check twitter when I smoke after my game of ingenuous, and Taptalk and Telegram are going all day.
screen on time by 5pm is around 2.5 hours and then I still have 60% left.

I think the probelm your sister is having is she:
a) uses the phone while it is on charge.
Leave the thing alone for 2 hours damit, you will survive! it will make the battery last longer!
b) unplugs the phone before it gets to 100%
this means the reserve of the battery is not full and that eats her battery life.
c) she has some sort of battery drainign app installed, something like the old faebook app. using data and battery even when the phone is locked and in her pocket.
I am using faecbook as an example, I deleted my facebook account in 2011, when I realised how bad the android app was.

also yes comparing to the Z3 is silly. Sony did an amazing job with that phone's battery, but I believe that if you use the G4 100% correctly it will out last the Z3. simply because it is newer. and the battery is bigger.

On what planet is 3000 bigger than 3100?
In addition the Z3 has a 1080P screen and the G4 has a 2K screen so the Z3 wants less battery for the same tasks as the G4. They can both be updated to the same point. The G4's only benefit are it's low use cores, but I don't imagine they make that much of a difference. So the G4 has no chance of ever outlasting a Z3 on equivalent usage.

You may have a point about the rest as my sister has Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp running and blows through 800MB data in a month (so these apps use clearly consume data in the background) just with social crap so that's probably increasing her drain VS you guys.

Is she on CellC by any chance?
See my suggestion here http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/619223-Official-LG-G3/page48/714
Try switching the phone to WCDMA only.

Whatsapp isn't heavy battery, but Facebook is a drainer (both battery and data) of note because of all the background updates. I don't even bother installing it on my phone. If I want to access Facebook, I just do it via the browser.

Anyone able to help me here?
If LG doesn't penalise you for rooting I'm getting a G4, ja I'm being rather hopeful but the LG phones do buck the trends in general, hoping also in that regard!

Main reason to root for me is adaway and titanium. With those 2 apps installed I'm in mobile heaven.

Going by the G3, dont root, its a HUGE mission unrooting the device and you cant install any updates, its also extremely difficult finding the south africa's stock rom. NEVER AGAIN.

I believe Bond rooted his G4 and then unrooted it again.

there is no Knox type thing preventing root.
but there is really no need at all. at least in my opinion there is no need to root.
adaway and Titanium are both awesome, but its not worth the effort.
I read somewhere that Rooting a G4 is only for Experienced rooters because the risk of bricking the device is much higher.

granted this was in a step by step guide on how to root a G4....

So having said that if a root bricks the phone or makes it unusable for whatever reason if the worst comes to the worst you can take it in for it to be sorted out under warranty and they won't quibble that it was rooted?

I've rooted or jailbroken virtually every device I have had in the last 5yrs odd and never bricked or damaged anything.

I have rooted every device I have had in the last 5 years as well.

there is no need to root the G4.
