LG Laser TV launch date announced

Very cool - "According to LG, the 1080p projector is capable of creating a 100-inch screen from just 22 inches (56cm) away."

an RS–232 port

:wtf: why would anyone want an RS232 port on a projector? Is it perhaps a VGA DSUB connector? (not that I would want DSUB either on a laser projector)

That's where you plug in the targeting computer for the laser. No doubt the frickin sharks attach somewhere too.

Targeting computer for a projector? This is not a laser sight mounted on a tank with auto tracker controller s/w.

You lost me entirely with the sharks reference.

To link it to home automation stuff .... ie, automatically close the curtains when you switch on, controlling the tv from the automation remote, etc. ... RS232 is not for delivering a video signal to it

Pretty sure the same article was posted last week some time?

RS232 is a relic of the past which might be useful with legacy home automation systems but why doesn't this trillion dollar projector at least have built-in wifi preferably an RJ45 Ethernet connector as well?

I'm sure I did not imply that, my comment was that the connectors for RS232 and DSUB video look very similar (inverted gender, different pinouts).

RS232 is still very much a standard for automation and most high-end devices supports this even if they do have an Ethernet port as well.

Serial port is 9 pin, VGA is 15 pin.

My memory is a bit vrot but I did find this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D-subminiature#Computer_video_output.

As for the projector, LG will no doubt want to charge a fortune for the thing and based on the article the projector doesn't even have an RJ45 or USB connector or Wifi. I suppose LG will release a 2.0 version that has RJ45 and USB at an even higher price and 3.0 will have Wifi and NFC that doesn't work with Samsung's S3.
