LG Scarlet LCDs = Crap?

I'm sensing that this thread is turning into another fanboy thread... and it seems to be the Samsung fanboys who have come out in force. A lot of calls of LG being crap but no material evidence given. I get the feeling that most of the people saying these things have not actually had personal problems with LGs. Actually it is funny that most of the people who actually own LG appliances seem to only say good things on this thread....

I used to get told that if you have nothing constructive to say then don't say anything.... if you have had an LG blow up then feel free to let us know but if you heard of a friend of an uncle who knew someone who heard about a dodgy LG product then maybe keep quiet! ;)

Also comments about LGs giving problems after 5/10 years... well this is to be expected really! I have a Philips TV that died... a Telefunken that is dying... a couple of video machines I do not even remember the make of eventually give up... this happens over time!

I have an LG fridge, microwave, computer screen, wife has an older cellphone... all about 2-5 years old and no problems...

I have a Samsung "stereo: VCR which cost quite a bit 8 years ago and it cant record anymore.. I have a Samsung 51cm tv, also 10 yrs old which is starting to give way... I have a Samsung "home entertainment system" (one of those with 5 speaker and take player and cd player etc etc etc) at about 5 yrs old, where the cd tray cant open anymore..

Morale of the above lot is = Expect anything to break when it starts to reach 5-10 yrs old, even more so with appliances that r used often... Dont jump to conclusions that LG is crap just cause of one LG appliance that didnt work...
 
My LG RH1999 HT DVD Recorder optical drive crapped out after 11 months - only used it a couple of times to watch DVD movies - a majority of the time I use the HDD only, so I think that some of their components used are cheap and nasty - even though it was within warranty, I battled to get it sorted (took ages for them to respond and "find a replacement part"), and I eventually gave up and purchased a brand new optical drive replacement from their spares department at R600+ -- it now works perfectly again, for now...
 
Sold/Installed plenty of LG DVD-RW & LCD monitors in my time as a I.T Techy, only ever had 1 return that was out of box failure so swap out and sorted. Same goes for Samsungs.

Any decent brand has their % of failures & poor performing products, some people are unlucky enough to receive 2 and think the entire brand is carp.

oh and FORD FTW.

For the record, my LG only lasted 2 years, the "swop out" only lasted 2 years aswell. My other monitor (different manufacturer) sofar lasted 4 years, and going strong..

There is his problem right there. He took the opinion of a chick for
tech related issues. Let her comment on his looks, dress or maybe
she should make a nice breakfast and later dinner for the guy instead
of putting her nose in LCD monitors and computer talk.... Scarlet LCD,
more like Scarlett O'Hara. He should watch a Gone with the Wind DVD with
her for a nice romantic time (after the dinner she's going to prepare for
him).

All makes have trouble now and then ( my troubles with LG DVD recorders are well documented here and how the new Sony was way better)

But no one can argue that the company that originally brought LG ( Goldstar back then) to SA, did so to introduce a lower quality ( read cheaper) brand to slot in below Panasonic SA which they owned at that time ( was still National Panasonic at that time if I remember correctly )
