LG UHD 49 - any good?

Never had any issues with LG TVs, but have read that some people despise them - with TVs dying just after warranty period etc.

The 49" 7900 nano (old stock) is R8000 at Dion Wired. Menlyn Centre branch had 3 on Saturday. Now they have 2 or less.

This is really a great TV for the price. Picture and sound quality are fantastic, compared to the entry-level TVs that are available at that price and sometimes more expensive..

I looked at the UK6300 models recently and opted for the SK8000 model rather. Mostly for future-proofing with updates, since the image quality in 2 stores was indistinguishable for me (and equally decent).

What did you pay for the SK8000, they seem to be a lot more expensive ?

There was about a 3k difference, but I'm happy with the purchase. I was keen for a more recent unit, and the SK8000 has been great so far. The quad-core is quick, and the smart features work very well.

As mentioned, poring over Rtings reviews played a major role

Had mine for 5 years already this year March and still going strong. Although, I want to upgrade it to a 55" as the 42" looks rather small now after I wall mounted it end of last year. I'm undecided between a Skyworth 55" model (for Android TV mainly) and going for an LG 55". I have a MiBox which I can always hookup again if I go the LG route :)

what about a Hisense set?
as its made locally hopefully the parts should be easier to get, and warranty should be better catered for.

just my 2c worth,

just my 2c worth,

Hisense did not support the Amazon Prime app, when I checked a month ago. The LG worked flawlessly.

sure there is a update fixing that? or an unofficial way to load that app, as its just software after all.

Possibly, but after 3 android streaming devices and 2 smart devices not supporting either Netflix or Amazon Prime, the LG was a pleasure to use out of the box
