LG V20

I have been tempted to get a V20 from Vodacom.

It is R299 pm and seems like a good deal.

BUT

I did some digging.

The V20 has many issues.

Screen quality issues, faulty earphone jack, overheating and bootlooping issues.

I checked Hellopeter to keep track of how issues are dealt with by LG_SA and networks.

There are a few complaints about the V20 on hellopeter and the phone is only a few months old, according to post.

Networks also seem to be dealing with G4 bootloop issues.

The way SA networks &LG are handling issues is very concerning.

There seems to be a blame game between LG and SA networks.

In some cases network tells customer it is water damage issue and eventually refuse to fix issues.

In some cases LG SA's repair centre has even stated they do not have the parts to fix G4 bootloop issues.

TLDR : I like the V20 but it is too much of a risk having a LG handset.

I now understand why Vodacom has the V20 at 299.It isnt a popular handset and LG is unreliable with ****ty after sales service.

I still have mine and I've had zero issues with anything on it. I can't say that for any of my Samsung phones.

Doubt this will get latest android. It's still kernel v3.xx whereas other devices with same android version are running V4 kernels. There have been some updates, but none of them bumped the kennel up.

I will skip the V20.

The lack of support from LG SA is scary to say the least.

Not worth the 24 month commitment.

Also been tempted to try lg devices after my g4. But there after service is bad. Samsung and huawei have walk in centres and replace and repair and you can go direct. Lg evrn with marketing of devices doesnt seem to care to much. I have been so tempted by the v30 but even as beautiful device as it is the lg cellphone brand has put a bad taste in many peoples mouth unfortunately for them.

If they got it together here and with better marketing they could do so much better.

Awesome phone - replaceable battery. Will definitely look at the V30 to replace this my V20.
Except that you lose the replaceable battery.

That said, I doubt I'll every need a second battery for this thing.

Still love my V20 - no issues after 1 year.

Will replace next year with V40 .

I apologize beforehand. I haven't followed the discussion on this phone and ask this on behalf of a friend who is situated mostly in Zambia.

5His current phone is beginning to give trouble and need to replace it. Due to financial constraints he will not be able to buy newer generation phones. He is looking at the following phones and ask advice which will be the better buy in terms of performance of the phone mostly used for whatsapp calling, a bit of internet search, reliability, taking photos and after sales service which will have to be from the supplier as the phone won't be on contract.

He has the positive attributes and would like some negatives to watch out for.

The phones are: LG V 20, SAMSUNG GALAXY J7 PRO and SONY EXPERIA XA1 ULTRA.

Should he consider anything else in this price range.

Thank you.

Go for the V20. It's the most awesomest phone between those options.

Agreed with Fanie, it's also built like a tank, and the replaceable battery should come in handy if he plans on keeping it for very long.

Negative to watch out for:
Battery Life, I had 2 colleagues at my old work who had V20s and both complained that it's a little heavy on the battery usage, but he can always buy a 2nd battery and have it charged up, so when he needs a charge up there is a 2nd one that is always ready to go.

I never had any battery issues.

Mine is just about a year old now and I'm still very happy with it. If he intends to use it to listen to music, the V20 is a no-brainer

Yeah, very good on the audio quality. And the standard LG headphones that come with it are quite sought after it seems. They're better than the Denons I coughed up R1000 for.

10 months down the line. No update for V20 to Oreo. No security update since March. Sorry LG - liked my V20 a lot but I am definitely not going to be purchasing the V30. My money will go elsewhere. No updates, no support, no sale...

Rest of the world got it in August-mid September.

Same for my K10.

Local operator "approval" process messing with the release.

Some Oreo updates are still rolling out for the V20.

But agree for one of the first phones released with Nougat, took too long to get Oreo
