LG V30

To be honest I havent played with the front facing camera yet.
Only tested the rear camera and the pics seem to look better than on my iPhone X, especially in low light comditions. Wide angle feature is amazing.

I found that the face unlocking works a lot better compared to the Galaxy S8 plus. The fingerprint scanner is also in a much better spot compared to the S8 plus imho.

Sound over headphones using Quad DAC is amazing too.

Battery life seems good too.

Snappy phone (especially if you change the animation speed from 1 to 0.5) and brings a very close feeling to vanilla android.

Best android phone I have had in years. Will see how the 5T compares once delivered.
Don't lie! How many selfies of you and the mirror did you take thus far... Own up

:D not that obsessed with myself.

Tested it now. Galaxy S8 plus definitely had a better front facing camere. It's not bad, bad also not mind blowing.

Got one too. Very impressed; it's way faster than I expected. I like the camera so far. The facial recognition is really good. I did miss having a notification LED, but the lock screen notification icons are fine. It is quite a slippery phone, but the silver finish is pretty.

Annoyingly, wallpaper changers no longer work; the wallpaper keeps getting reset back to the default. That may be an Android issue though.

And notification sounds are very limited; many apps can't set a different sound.

Wallpaper I set stayed. How did you set the wall paper?

The notification sound issue is OS related. If the actually app doesn't have any settings to change the sound it will use your default one. Quick way to find out is if you head to settings - Notification - Apps click on the app. If an app has notification settings there will be an I icon on the top right

I set the wallpaper multiple ways; I tried using the Wallpaper Changer app (and others I tried), and through the Live Wallpapers setting. Same result with all. The wallpaper changes happily every 20 min or whatever for a few hours, and then the wallpaper gets set to a default image and stays.

For the notifications - I see that apps don't have settings, but on my BlackBerry Priv, the phone did give the option to change the notification sounds for those same apps.

Was your priv running Android 7? Probably not. It's a os limitation, not a LG limitation

Regarding the wallpaper. Use your gallery and navigate to the wallpaper you want to use and manually set it.

Seems bizarre that features would be removed going from 6 to 7.

That just sets a single wallpaper, that works fine. I like to have random wallpapers every 20 minutes or so.

How is the front facing camera. Been alot of bad reviews on it.
Looks like a stunning device
Jip, had the G6 and the FF Camera really, really smudged everything (all "beautify" settings off etc) average battery but the rest was tops though. Seems they went the same way with the front camera on the V30, disappointed I am..

Looks like the wallpaper issue may just have been the number of images in the folder. I created a folder with only 20 or so, and it's been cycling through them happily.

Has anyone got the phone from Vodacom? Im really keen on getting it in blue but Ive only seen them advertise it in silver.

It was rather a feature of the Priv, and not an OS feature. Of all the Droids I've had, not one allowed me to set the notification sound per app, even if the app didn't support it, regardless of OS version.

Am surprised this phone isn't more popular in SA.
Tested both the S8 plus and now the note 8 and have to say I prefer the V30.

what makes it more appealing in your opinion?
Don't get me wrong. The S8 plus and the note 8 are stunning devices, but I prefer the slightly wider aspect of the LG. I can type a lot better on the LG. This off course is personal preference.

The LG feels snappier though, closer to stock android. Battery life seems better too.

My S8 plus started feeling sluggish after a few days, something I always disliked about android. Yet on the LG it still feels as snappy as the very first day I switched it on. This might also just be my imagination.

The fingerprint scanner on the LG is in a much better position imho. Face recognition seems to work better too, as you can rerun the setup to improve it, IE with and without beard or with and without glasses etc.

Other than that, I'd say they very much on par. I do find the camera better on the sammies, but the wide angle on the lG makes up for it.

Just wish there was a way to setup reachability on the LG the way it works on the sammies, by pressing the home button 3 times. On the LG you have to swipe the bottom bar, which is a hit and miss.

Very happy with the LG. I can finally say I ditched iOS for good, for now ;)

I went to look at the v30 this afternoon... It is a stunning smooth device
One question i want to ask... With my note 8 i have screen brightness at about 30% on the same on the v30 it was alsmost full brightness.... Is it a lg thing with oled screen. Thats ome thing that put me off such a beautiful device

I've noticed the same. The Sammie screens are brighter.
I'm curious, what do you feel is better about Android vs iOS?
Never said android was better ;)
I was just bored of iOS. I'm having currently fun exploring all avenues of android and I like what I've seen thus far.
