Which would you buy and justify?

Samsung LA40C530
LG 42LD460

Both are R7000.

Thanks in Advance for the Help :)

Between those two, the LG ... They are very similar, but the extra 2 inches makes a big difference ... On that budget, though, I would rather look at plasma. The 50Hz LCD's are not that great.

So I went to cats digital yesterday. The 530 of 50hz was standing next to a Sammie of 100hz. Wow hectic difference!!!! I was shocked. Decided not to go for 530, but save another month and go for the 100hz

Personally I prefer Samsung, had some bad experience with LG, but I think they are pretty much of a muchness. Both decent.

- Xbox
- HD Movies
- TV Series
- Sports (when I decided to get DSTV)

Add the Samsung PS42C430 plasma to your list (or even the PS50C430 50" plasma which is around the R7000 mark). Will be best for sport/DSTV, as well as SD TV series (SD/low quality feeds are better on plasma). Plasma has a much faster response time than LCD, so there is no motion blur with sport - something which makes entry-mid range LCDs unsuitable for watching sport. Difference between plasma and LCD will be less noticeable with Xbox/HD movies, but I'd still say the plasma will take it in terms of colours and blacks.

Definitely go to a store and compare them all with various feeds.

If you stick with LCD then I would take the Samsung LA40C530. Its USB port can also play a lot of different media, even MKVs I've heard.

Is the 50inch Plasmas going for 7K region. Wow thats a really good price.
Its probably a HD Ready screen, but who cares.

Yeah great value for money and perfect if you don't need 1080p; and realise there is little to no difference between 720p and 1080p from 2.5m+ viewing distance.

Samsung 50' Plasma for R7K anywhere? Doubt it.

I saw some scary specials at Nashua Electronics on Sunday ... okay so I think these were 42" but at R7k I was gob-smacked. Considering I bought a 42" just a year back for under R10k (and that was a show special), I was horrified that prices had dropped so quickly.

Thanks PostmanPot, I'll definitely keep that in mind while looking around.

Only looking at buying the end of Jan. :( Do you think these specials will still be around by then?

I see Dion Wired have the Samsung LA40C630 on Special for R7999 with a 3yr Guarantee. Deal or No Deal?

That's a great LCD and would be more than enough for most people. It has 100Hz motion flow so sport is dramatically improved over entry-mid LCDs with 50Hz which suck for sport. R7999 would be an absolute steal as the cheapest I'd heard of that set is R10,000. For predominantly TV/sport viewing you should still check out plasma. The 50" Samsung plasma I mentioned earlier is also R7999 at a few places. Quite a bit bigger and likely to be better for TV/sport.

Went to have a look at the LA40C630 and saw the LA40C650... Wow it looks amazing!

I took some SD series (The Big Bang Theory) to play, was very impressed with the SD upscaling.

Question: Switched off MotionPlus and played some Dexter HD, I found some scenes played fast/too smooth... Why? or is it just my eyes?

I have the plasma and it's awesome. Would not take anything else. I tested that Samsung LCD LA40C530 and even though it plays MKVs, the quality is really ****.
