Liberty hack still being investigated

Liberty has told MyBroadband that its investigation into a recent IT security breach is ongoing, and the company is working with authorities on the matter.

Did Liberty randomly contact MyBB out of the blue to tell MyBB that the investigation was spinning wheels waiting for "authorities" (which presumably means the process of applying and waiting for court orders to be issued amongst other legal paraphernalia)?

Or did MyBB contact Liberty to find out if the investigation was getting somewhere/nowhere?
