LibreOffice 5.1 launched

Meh, it's sluggish as hell
What OS & Hardware you running it on?
Tested 5.1 yesterday on Win10 newish PC and it was quick and fresh.
Much improved from the days of OpenOffice/StarOffice

Prefer it to M$ Office, and as a bonus it also works on Linux.

I have MS Office on the company issued laptop and Libre on my personal laptop. I wish Libre would just copy the Microsoft Office themes / menus to make it easier when switching between MS Office and Libre. They have already copied everything else.

Does it allow you to change localisation settings? Last time I used it, it took all it's locale setting from a standard based on your location. It was wrong, obviously, but more importantly, couldn't be fixed. That was a deal-breaker.

Edit: Computer says no, so I'm forced to use the locale settings some arsehole from god-knows-where has decided are appropriate for South Africa. Guess I'll pass on this version too.

Did you try clicking on the dropdowns?

Looks like nothing much has changed in 10 years. Still can't set things to my taste. How arrogant does a developer need to be that he thinks he knows what the user wants, better than the user.

Anyway, like I said, it's a deal-breaker.

You aren't fooling anyone, you were always going to carry on pirating the MS version anyway.

No, I'm open to other options. But not options that won't allow me to chose my decimal and thousands delimiters. Why won't they allow that? Are they trying to be obtuse?

Tried it ten years ago, doesn't work properly (causes superfluous spaces), and is, at best, a jury rigged solution to a problem that shouldn't exist.

Doesn't work at all - there is no predefined locale that uses the combination of separators that I want to use.

That is the one from 10 years ago.

My problem is still popping up in forum posts every few weeks, so obviously nothing's changed.

So now we're getting to your issue.

Yes, I want to set separators myself, not rely on some generic, out-dated standard that Libre Office is trying to force on it's users.

Sheesh. A little post about a new version of software escalated into this kind of personal attack. Well done boys.

Have just installed it on Windows 7 and there was complete breakage - almost nothing worked. One of the many things wrong was that the menus at the top of the screen were not visible. I fixed as follows, in case anyone else has had this:

Click along the top of the window where the menus should be. This at least shows the drop-down menus.
Probe blindly until the drop-down for the Tools item shows (Third from the left).
Select options.
Go to LibreOffice > View and uncheck the box that says Use OpenGL for all rendering. The options menu would freeze on each click so it was necessary to close and re-open it on each step, but finally got there.
Close the package and then re-open it. Fixed.

Hopefully the next release does not have these issues.
