License Disk Renewal - WTF!

I live in JHB, but my disk renewal goes to moms house in Pietermaritzburg. Get the renewal today (cause Im in PMB visiting) and go to the post office. "Sorry, we cannot do GP plates" comes the reply from the sterotypical ahole behind the counter. No explanation, nothing. Just that. Now, Im gonna have to pay a fine for late renewal when I eventually do get back to Gauteng. Why?

Before you say, why dont you get your stuff posted to JHB, the answer is "..because." My point is " In the information age we live in...how hard can it be?" Anyway, just a rant:mad:
 
Because they're different provinces.

Same as you cannot get a Dell shop to honor the warranty on a Fujitsu PC.
 
Dell and Fujitsu are different altogether and represent a terrible analogy. This is a vehicle license (plain and simple). I attempted to pay through the Post Office. Seems to me that its not unreasonable to link the two systems. Dell shop might not stock Fujitsu parts, but I really dont see the problem in a KZN post office linking to a GP database. Its the same white paper, printing the same circular shape. All it is is a few letter changed.

How long before you back in JHB .... you get 21days after 30/06 to renew
+ the little bit extra to pay/month for being late is not that much & you actually don't lose any money because they just move your renewal date up by a month if you happen to pay after said 21days. :whistle:
 
Strange. I renewed my bike's license (NW plate) at an Engen which offered the service. Picked up the license disc 2 days later and voila, I sommer had a my registration changed to GP registration number. The NW plate will stay on the bike though...hehehe...ignorance and all that.
 
@ COMPUTEK - Getting back last week in July. Dont really mind the fees and you're right about the date going forward. Good point. Still though, its annoying.
@icbxx - Did you really get your registration changed at an Engen? And all you took was the white piece of paper (the renewal slip). I suppose that just proves my poin then. KZN is behind.

Generally, it might be easier to just get a KZN plate, cause Im here so often nowadays. But then again, I drive like a d*&k. When I cut across people in DBN, they get REALLY agro. So I point to the plate and GPS and they sommer give me a chance. In GP, most people drive like that, so KZN plate wont help me there!
 
you do know it's a crime to have your license disk not go to your current place of living. read the back of the licence paper. they can fine you for that.

Well it's supposed to go to an address in the province where you live! Read the fine print :)
 
My question is why do they have to print a round license disc? Or why not have it as peel off round disc? Can you imagine how much time is wasted just because we have to cut out that stupid circular license disc?

because they make money by charging you an extra R5 for cutting that paper disk :)
 
those agencies that do licence disc renewals can renew it for you & courier your new disc to you... I used to use them while I was still living in Limpopo & using a GP plate

You do know that different provinces have different legislation, different license prices and even different provincial governments?

Go try renew your GP license at any City of Cape Town establishment and watch them laugh at you.

It's not incompetence, it just the way it is.
 
The R320 renewal is rather annoying as well

Department of transport is just raping us now
 
lmao so whats the story of the post office in southway mall umbilo not wanting to accept my pinetown renewal ? its the same province for goodness sake. cost me 30 minutes to go to stupid pinetown licence office and stand in a que of another 30 minutes.

i wasnt going to pay sarnia post office R15 to go get my disc. screw that :P

sorry if i pointed my finger several times at you then! haha but yeah gp people drive odd ! i wonder if its the N3 route doing that to them when they come down to durban , its such a nice long road :P

In isolation you could say the costs are alright but when you consider the fact that JHB is about to become heavily tolled, and the roads that aren't being tolled are in a shocking state it becomes a bit sickening.. Atleast they do maintain the roads in CT and the fees are justified..

WTF is our R380 going towards?
