Absolutely hate our traffic department and processes when it comes to this ... nothing screams 3rd world like being in the Randburg Traffic department :(

Anyway - is there anything I can do to speed up the process?
Someone said an eyetest at an optometrist - but someone else said it makes no difference because I need fingerprint taken anyhow?

Lastly - office is around Kyalami ... where is the closest area?

Thanks

The eye test wont save you any time, last time i went the dude administering the eye test was the same guy who took your photo / Finger prints so you end up waiting in the same queue all you do is save time when you get to the front unless a lot of people bring their own eye test then ya it saves time :wtf:

Kyalami - wouldn't sandton / Marlboro be closer to you?

Ah - was afraid of that.

Isn't not sure - only started working here 2 weeks back

EDIT : I see Midrand would be best for me ... hoping it is decent

Wife went to Midrand (close to Dale Road) last week, said it was fairly decent, got sorted quite quickly.

Only advice, get their number and call before you go, my wife called for almost 3 days and every time the "system" was down.

If you have renewed before the expiry date, then keep your receipt with you. If only renewing after, then get a temp paper.

you can also get a duplicate at a reduced rate. I do this everytime in case i lose / get wallet stolen.
It saves going through the whole process, and the R180 or whatever rand is worth it

But I'm guessing a duplicate is only valid to what the original date was?

yeah, it will expire the same time as the new card you get.
For me, its worth every cent to have a second one to avoid renewing if I lose my wallet (which happens about once every year or so :) )

Do yourself a favour and drive through to Rayton, it's a bit of a drive for you but you'll be done in 30 minutes or less

Today is the big day :/

Do I need my greenbook ID document?
More importantly, is there any grace period on a license card renewal?

Take everything with you, including a copy of what you ate for breakfast - these guys seem to change the rules on a daily basis.

Photos, Eyetest (should be done there), Green ID and old licence, and a wallet full of cash. :)

I left my green ID at home :(

My licenses has an expiry date for tomorrow, so I need to do it today (without ID if allowed) - unless they have a grace?

What worries me more than fines are if they class you as unlicensed in the event of an accident and insurance will refuse to pay?

http://www.rtmc.co.za/index.php/licence-card

Your South African drivers license card serves as valid proof that you have a South African drivers license. When you’re drivers license card expires, it does not mean that your drivers license has expired - only that the card serving as valid proof that you hold such a license has expired. When you renew your card you will not be expected to undergo a drivers license test.

Whew!

Have you got a certified copy with you?

Last time I renewed I had a copy on application, they accepted it and said only original is valid when collecting..

So so inefficient ... 1hr 15 already and probably another 1h 30 to the first door.

Ran out of forms and needes to wait for more - no one knows what is going on.

I wish they could privatise this or use IT more effectively to assist the proceas. I feel like I'm in Kenya

They are probably quicker in Kenya - last time I did it, it took me an entire day at Winkelspruit.....now I have to do it all over again this year!
