Lightedge in LIQUIDATION

I can't agree. Always had good service from them. They were often the only place to find those hard to find odd items such as SCSI converters, cable etc.

True, but there was somethign lacking in the atmosphere of the place. And have had a few warranty issues with them. And man, trying to get onto the Old Pretoria Road in a northerly direction and also going to Allendale side was always a bother too.

What happens to all the debt of customers who buy on account, does it get written off and the customers get all the goods for nothing, or will the customers still have to pay Lightedge

All I can say is the Cape Town branch has always given me excellent service. Their premises is kinda a bitch to get into and to pick up stock, but they always were willing to walk the extra mile.

But then again, that was three years ago.

I'm sure there have been, and will be many more such stories. Unfortunately BEE does not take campetence into account. Hmm it's all about the numbers I guess. Yeah it works wonders for empowering...

just shows where the priorities lie in this country, f^u^c^k making a profit , rather score high on BEE today even if you dont exist tommorrow.

I am really sad this happened, been reselling their PC's for the last 3 years in Nelspruit. Excellent service, excellent, but I mean excellent quality PC's.

Problem is that I now have a whole bunch of machines out in the field with 3 year warranties, which I will have to cover myself.

Got in an Acer desktop PC today to look at. Considering using that as replacement. But it's just not the same. No cable dressing, no solid feel.

Will miss them....

I love it how vultures flock around a dead corpse when the body isn't even cold yet. Hundreds of people are out of a work now people with kids, people with hungry mouths to feed, bills to pay. And were are they left now in the middle of ****en nowhere. They aren't even sure if they will see there salary paid out or there leave day money given to them.

They are sitting on the street now with no income think about that before dancing on the company grave and going on about how bad the service was. And let me remind you that every big IT company out there has had bad service stories floating around.

I could care less if it was due to BEE or bad management, but what it has left in its wake is despair and an uncertain future for all of the ex employees of Lightedge.

Oh by the way I used to be an employee at Lightedge Johannesburg till Tuesday morning when I got to the office and was told I don't have a job anymore.

It's also a very crowded industry. I suspect they sourced lots locally from other distributors. One problem - their market. I am convinced they sold to the public/end-users etc as well as resellers at same price.
At one stage they seemed to be trying to launch their own brand - a bit late. They had good variety of "gadgets" though.
Probably won't miss them as I barely went there in recent years.

I know for a fact that is not true.

In JHB I know of people who bought there.

Either way though. Doors closing on a place that has been going for 15yrs is not nice.
Another one to be added to the BEE tab it seems.

i buy from a number of resellers and good few of them do sell to end users, its a cut-throat business, maybe if Light Edge did sell to the public they wouldnt be where they are

Whilst dealers and members of the public could and did purchase from Lightedge, they weren't charged the same prices. If a member of the public wanted to purchase goods, Lightedge added an additional markup to the cost on top of their normal profit margin.
