So as luck would have it something near me got struck by lightning and did a lot of damage. I ended up replacing my surge protectors, network cards, router and all the filters in my house.

Now I have another issue, I think the Telkom line between the exchange and my house itself was damaged as well. Where my SNR and Line Attenuation were previously:

Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin 38.0 dB 31 dB
Line Attenuation 4.5 dB 2.5 dB

They have now gone to:
Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin 20.0 dB 25 dB
Line Attenuation 39 dB 5 dB

So I've contacted Telkom and asked the to come and check the line between the exchange and my house, got the normal story they will quickly test it over phone that there is nothing wrong and I insisted that they send someone out. After that I got a call asking exactly what the problem was, explained it again and was once again assured that someone will come and look, nothing has happened since then though.

At this stage I'm thinking that I'll just get charged at the end of the month with nothing actually being done and even though my line works I'd like to get it back to its original condition.

Has anyone else had any success in getting Telkom to come and repair something like this? How did you do it?
Would it help if I requested my line to be upgraded to another speed? ie do they still change the port at the exchange to do this?
If all else fails can I simply got and cut my line between the box and my house and ask Telkom to come and install a new one?

Did you call the ADSL help desk? 0800 375 375

The normal Telkom faults people won't even understand the question.

Have the same issue, in the road at the box the errors is 2 per minute.

15m further the errors in my home is over 50 per minute!

The techie said that something like that to be repaired won't happen as easily, Telkom needs to send out contractors ect...

Hence it will cost too much!

i had something similar... took 2 months to fix. Just gotta keep reminding them that you have a fault, eventually they get around to doing it :)
