Any suggestions. My existing cable just stopped working and I need a new reliable but cheapish replacement. Please assist, thanks.

When you own an Apple product, cheap should be removed from your vocabulary.

U can get replacements from clicks for about 50% of the normal price and a few other places but they never last long. Best bet is to just buy the apple cable lol

Hrm the new cables should be better.

Btw if you want the cable to last, simply leave it at a location e.g. At work, home and car. I find that the cable usually last longer that way

Picked up this cable yesterday from the istore. Pretty handy esp when I'm traveling or I've got my mophie case on.

Price: R249

Does that charge and sync? I heard from someone that generic cables only charge and don't sync iPhones and iPads - especially running iOS 7. Is that true?
Haven't tried syncing but I did use it to offload photos into aperture so I don't see why it wouldn't. FWIW Apple licenses the tech in the connector to various third party manufacturers.

I would recommend only buying cables stocked by the iStore/Digicape.

Recent being that Apple recently started blocking some cables for lacking the voltage regulator required and therefore popping chips inside the phone.

As such it's hard to say if a third party cable will work or not.

Bought a whole lot of chinese jobbies which were working fine until recently.

I know the Kanex stuff is officially supported and not too badly priced.

If it's sold by the iStore/Digicape it will work.

I bought 2 from HD cabling, been working for a month now which is 2 weeks longer than any other "non apple" cable i have used. also cheap, think its R120 per cable, its longer and a lot more thick than your average iphone cable. Can recommend them.

I still have my iPad 2 cable and has been to hell and back. Still working 100%.

What are you people doing with your cables, towing cars with them or what?

I bought a nice 2m long cable from DX for my SO's iPhone. The cable worked perfectly until the iOS8 release, now she gets the "This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably" message whenever the cable is plugged in, and the phone won't charge. It seems that if you don't buy a premium (priced) 'Lightning certified' cable (with the Apple chip in it), the new iOS won't let you use the cable.
And R290 for a 90cm cable is just plain ridiculous.
