Hi:)

We got a new pc at work this week with a lightscribe dvd drive. The drive letter (d) also comes up as a USB Mass Storage Device with the little green arrow at the bottom of the screen to safely remove hardware. Is this supposed to happen with these drives?

What disks are available for writing the labels on with this drive?

Thanks

if it's a SATA it will have that option to remove the device while the system is on.

Any regular lightscribe media will do. usually gold in colour.

I prefer LabelFlash. In addition to printing on the normal print surface it lets you print on the remainder of the unwritten portion. LabelFlash media is harder to come by though, but it looks awesome. Been a while since my NEC churned out one of those babies :(

@HFGP: Any ideas where to get LabelFlash media?

I've been looking around and unfortunately it's difficult to get in SA because only Fujifilm seems to manufacture them. I usually ask my sister to buy me some whenever she flies over to Hong Kong every few months. Although I'm pretty sure I've seen them for sale on Amazon and eBay if you don't mind sourcing them internationally.

If anybody knows where about in SA to buy them, please share :(

Sorry man I think we veered off course with your thread :D

Most of the main manufacturers produce Lightscribe discs - Verbatim etc. and they don't look bad at all.

There's a cool comparison between the two here http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/02/14/labelflash_vs_lightscribe_dvd/ along with pictures of both discs after printing. The problem with Labelflash discs is availability, which I hope would pick up as more manufacturers start producing these discs.

Seems that you can now get different coloured Lightscribe (and Labelflash) media. Somebody called mic_y on myadsl I think was supplying them a while back. Just look for previous Lightscribe threads.

PS Take a look at at the Label Gallery while you are there to get some ideas.

I got an external LG lightscribe about 3 weeks ago - never looked back - the labels are cool. Blank media from Makro for Memorex (some compatibility issues with my internal Sony DVD though) 10 disks for R80. Also get Philips and HP media from Montana Traders for R60 for 10 disks. Philips seem quite able and have had no compatibility issues yet. Have not tried the HP disks yet.

Interesting:) The Labelflash certainly seem a superior product from the above IMO:D
