Anyone have any exp with https://www.lightstruck.co.za/

They will be providing fibre to my area in the coming months, according to their site and customer center. But this is the first time hearing of them.

They have excellent equipment on their network. Their investors aren't shy to do things properly.

We hardly ever hear complaints from our clients who are on Lighstruck. Things just work the way they're supposed to.

Im very glad to hear that. Now just have to wait a few months, then finally i too can have good internet connection. Then only have to decide on the ISP

Not really a problem, cause their service is 100% uptime, so no reason to go away from them. Their own ISP is also slightly cheaper than other offerings.

Even if you want to move away from them, a new router cost less than R1000

Due to problems with them getting wayleave from the municipality, they have suspended all deployment and have moved to a different province.

So most likely won’t be getting fibre any time soon
I assume you're talking about Durban municipality?

Same difference. They have their own ISP...
No not the same difference. A price increase across the FNO would end up applying to all ISPs, a price increase on just the ISP side is just an increase for them.

The same way MFN brought their prices down and every ISP on that network brought there's theirs down too to reflect that.

I assume you're talking about the ISP side, which is Yutiliti.

They're increasing their prices come 1 January. Terrible company. Everyone else is dropping their prices but not these bunch of crooks. They can go suck a tailpipe. Also they shape VPN traffic. Retarded.

They have announced a price increase at a FNO level; which will unfortunately affect all the ISPs on their network, including their own. Why not swap to another ISP if they're throttling? The throttling is at a L3 (ISP) level, not L2 (FNO).

This is the rub for Open Access providers who punt their own ISP. But fundamentally, if Lightstruck, the FNO, ups their pricing, it will (should) affect their own ISP too.

Exactly. Which is why I want to know what @backstreetboy is referring to. Is it an FNO-wide increase or just Yutiliti.

Unless he just doesn't know, since from his POV an increase is an increase, who cares from what angle.

I like asking this from ISP reps here. Maybe you can answer.

How would you rate Lightstruck and MFN compared to other FNOs? Average, above average, below?

And I mean the actual quality of the network. For example @portcullis giving Lightstruck a glowing review from the network perspective.

Yeah did that and not getting shaped anymore. Should've done it way earlier.

Hi everyone

Anyone have issues with their Lightstruck fibre from 1 May?

My line went offline on 1 May and neither me nor @AfriNatic can get hold of their support...

If this is the way forward I might have to consider a different internet method...
