Limewire and Iburst

Well my experience with Limewire pro is slooooooow speeds and finally you get something d/l'ed and its got trojans, came across a similiar app the other day called "Frostwire" - Tried it and got excellent speeds! Way faster than Limewire, well thats just my 2 cents worth... You can d/l Frostwire from http://www.frostwire.com/

-=(From the actual site)=-
What is FrostWire
FrostWire is a fork of the very popular LimeWire Gnutella client. The purpose of FrostWire is to keep and maintain the freedoms that LimeWire LLC may be forced to withdraw.

LimeWire LLC has been considering an alternative path to keep them out of any legal situations they could be forced into. From what we understand, LimeWire LLC intends to implement a DRM filtering technology into their client. If LimeWire ever decides to implement this DRM technology, we will be prepared to remove it from our code and distribute the client under our own branding. However, we will continue supporting the LimeWire client development and do not wish to make fundamental or drastic changes to the LimeWire core itself. FrostWire will not break with LimeWire's design philosophy. We will always do our best to maintain a strong relationship with the LimeWire Development Team.

FrostWire, although very much like LimeWire, will never offer a paid version or a subscription service for the download or use of the FrostWire application. FrostWire is a not-for-profit project. We will never bundle our software with any type of adware, spyware, malware or collect any personal or private data. FrostWire will always remain free as in both price and freedom.

If you have alot of $$$, then G9 is a great option I guess. Iburst aren't yet offering an uncapped service, are they?

Nope, no uncapped yet, but they did ask about it in their customer survey I believe.. Maybe they will make some plans?

But I wouldn't be able to afford it, not sure how many people would buy it, all depends on the price I guess.

It'll probably be around R1900 per month. With that kind of money, you might as well get the G9 package. 9Gig is alot of bandwith.

20kB/s on Limewire is the norm. At work with ADSL I also get those speeds. You will however see it reach it max when you have more than 1 download, e.g. 3 downloads max the 512adsl line.

but, don't even bother with limewire when capped. you will barely connect.

When you are capped all P2P is meant to be blocked afaik. Only DC++ (iBurst hub only) or any other P2P which is normally unshaped will work.

20kb isn't the norm for Limewire when you are unshaped, I have got 80kb out of Limewire on my iBurst when I just used a proxy, and with only 1 download. Your work ADSL must also be shaped... and what are you doing on P2P at work anyway :p

guys not to boast about it, I am on Iburst 9g, and use limewire pro, and depending on the peer uploading, i normally get between 40-50 kb. which is relatively ok.
otherwise coughwww.shareaza.comcough

or coughanyp2pbecauseitsunshapedcough good luck reading that..

But shareaza is cool because its got an Afrikaans interface built into the default app, how cool is that.

FWIW: I tried Frostwire for a few days. Gives 3 connections, and max 8 hosts. Limewire PRO gives 5 connections and a max of 10 hosts. Couldn't see any difference in the content - same network. Couldn't see any benefit in Frostwire over Limewire PRO. Extra connections and hosts of Limewire PRO gives better performance.
