(Firstly, yeah I'm fairly terribad at computing so bear with me.)

Anyway, story goes like this. I was browsing, Eskom decided to have some fun and cut the power for two hours (yay). Afterwards, I switched on the PC again and got the "Limited or no connectivity" / Yellow exclamation triangle on my Local Area Connection.

I tried disable/enable, repair (failure on the new IP naturally), manually reseting my Router as well as powercycling. Tried "ipconfig /renew" to no avail (ipconfig gives me a 169.254.x.x address btw, so I'm guessing it's a LAN / Router communication errorthingamabob or w.e.) and I get the whole " unable to contact your DHCP server" thing.

It's not the Winsock patch, I am using XP SP2, but don't recommend that patch seeing as I've tried that.

I'm pretty stumped here, and would really appreciate the help. I doubt the sudden power outage could've caused physical damage, but I'm clueless here.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Try running the following commands before destroying your router: Ipconfig [/release], [/flushdns], [/renew], [/registerdns] - then netsh winsock reset. If that doe's not work, try plugging in another pc, alow it to be assigned an automatic address and see if it gets a valid DHCP address. If it doe's get a valid DHCP address - you have likely a faulty NIC or need to reinstall your TCP/IP on the pc. If it doe's not - you probably have a faulty router... try a firmware upgrade.... will reset the whole router and give you the latest firware that could possibly help with the problem.

I get that sometimes. Turn off your computer and pull out the power cord connected to your PSU. Leave it out for a few seconds and plug it back in. Test to see if it works.

I get that all the time. If you're using PPPoE as opposed to NAT, then just ignore it and connect to your account anyway and you'll still get your full speed.

Another method is also to reset the router (unplug power and reconnect)

are you by any chance running Norton Internet Suite including firewall? Norton is also known for screwing up those network settings.

If it aint working then how you on myadsl??? lol

YA try going into the routers native website(it's a 10.0.0.xx in the address bar) and go to reset router... should reset very thing. if not, restart your pc... I used to get it... but windows networks suck
