Hi all

How would I limit a 2nd pcs browser speeds? permanentely, Whenever I decide to play css, tf2, cod4, some noob comes and uses our other pc and my ping goes through the roof. I would like to limit that pc to maybe 10kb's. I have tried netlimiter but I would like to make it permanent.

Thanks :)

Buy a small PC for like R2500 with two network cards, install ClarkConnect or Smoothwall or IPCop on it, setup one card as your local network and the other as the External network, then use the software's functionality to give the HTTP protocol the LOWEST priority, and all other to HIGHEST.

When they browse, you'll get about a 20% increase in latency.

Otherwise ... another telephone line / put them onto ibust or neotel?

Isnt there a less complicated way of doing it, like by installing a program which will limit the internet traffic to 10kb's ?

What router are you using? Some routers support QoS. So you will be able to give http/https/ftp/etc a low priority, thus increasing your gaming pleasure.

Dude, you don't limit on your connection, you limit it upstream at your ISP. It is the only way you don't get fscked. If you open a website 100 small links are opened, they all try flood you at 50kbyte/s and you try limit it, for 2 or 3 seconds your connection is flooded. I got a 4mbit and it helped. I tried limiting for a long time and realised I wasted my time.
