Lindt 99% bars

i was just informed that i can get 99% lindt chocolate. super excited. for my birthday i bought cacao nibs and those are real nice. its texture is a little like coconut and it's not sweet at all.

initially i thought dark chocolate was rubbish, but that's because the first "dark" "chocolate" i tried was bourneville. i gave lindt a shot and initially my wife didn't like it. after a while the 75% started tasting like milk chocolate, so we upgraded to 85%. more than that is too bitter for my wife, but i love the 90% bar.

i'm definitely going to go hunting for a 99%. :D
This is all very interesting Mr Easter Bunny, but don't think you're going to get away with giving us dark chocolate eggs next year :p

Spar in blairgowrie had stock of 99% last time I was there

I had a 99 bar. It's too bitter, almost salty.

i don't think it's a common one. i always take a detour past chocolates and i've never seen it. mostly i go to lonehill's woolworths and pick n pay.

Is it supposedly 99% cocoa? In which case that must be absolutely disgusting...

I doubt it's anywhere close to that. The 99% bars are easy to find in PE, and they're just a bit more bitter than the 90/85% bars. I didn't find the few pieces I ate disgusting, but they weren't particularly enjoyable either. I dissolved half the bar in mugs of hot chocolate. Wasn't good for much else.

i tried dissolving dark chocolate in milk. left a lot of solid bits behind. i don't react well to any kind of solid thing when i drink milk/coffee/hot chocolate.

Yeah no that won't work haha. Grinding it in a coffee grinder and then mixing it with mascarpone or ricotta works much better
*goes off to the kitchen*

Also Spar 4 ways opposite Monte - was going to buy, but its only 50gr (same size though) and costs more so I was like nah, but I do want to try it, so maybe this weekend.

That happens if you drop the piece in and leave it. The hot chocolate needs to be piping hot and you have to stir the chocolate in. And use a small piece. I only have a slight build up of chocolate at the bottom of the mug when I do it - nothing that interferes with drinking.

<ack> <spit> <mouthwash> <rinse> <stiff shot>

I'm reporting this **** to the UN, to add to the Geneva Convention.

My tasting notes: Texture of compressed grass cuttings, melting point indeterminate, but high - may be used as a re-entry heat shield on the new shuttle, tastes like dark chocolate for the first 0.00012 seconds, then the full "flavour" hits you, like wood mixed with roaches - in an emergency it can be used to induce vomiting.

I can't even give away the leftovers (49g of a 50g slab), because I wouldn't inflict this on my worst enemy.

Your palate needs to mature ;)

It's as mature as it's ever going to get.

There's a saying on shooting ranges, "If you're getting used to the noise, it's because you're going deaf." Same sort of thing applies here.

i use lindt cocoa in my baking (suddenly they stopped selling at the their shop, so i'm screwed now). i mixed some of the cocoa with water to make a paste (for hot chocolate) and the smell was sooo nice, so i tried a bit.

now that i've tried this chocolate, i can say it tastes quite a bit lit the cocoa-paste i made, just smoother and better. :)

they werent just out of stock? I was looking at a recipe and wondered if lindt had a cocoa version.

I have a dark chocolate cheese cake and want to add the 99% in and see how that comes out. I'll ramp it up slowly to that strength though.

i popped in yesterday. apparently there's a place called "kaydees/caydeys/kadies/...." that sells it (the lady there wasn't sure where they are). last time i was there was in april and they said they don't really sell cocoa powder anymore, but they made a plan and we bought 400g. they popped it in a ziplock for us, then gave us a lindor ball each for free. :)

i'll see if they i can find out from their facebook page. we almost finished with our cocoa powder and i don't like any other brand.
