Anyone know where I might find a stockist of this chocolate around Jhb? I've tried the usual suspects but 85 is as far as they go. I like 85, but I want to try 99.

Is it supposedly 99% cocoa? In which case that must be absolutely disgusting...

Some people always want to "ruk die poepol uit die hoender uit".

Why 99% why not 100%?

When I first tried 99% dark chocolate – the Noir Infini from Michel Cluizel (not even the 100% variety which wasn’t produced much then) I hated it. It was bitter beyond belief and drew all the moisture out of my mouth. The reason back then was that I just didn’t know how to consume extremely bitter dark chocolate. If there’s any one thing I can pass on here and that’s 100% dark chocolate should definitely not be consumed as any other chocolate bar below the 90% cocoa solids level – for it’s a completely different type of chocolate at all. And here’s why.

100% dark chocolate doesn’t contain any sugar to sweeten, any vanilla to hide any deficiencies in the bean or any soya, or other type of lecithin, to aid viscosity in the production process – which makes chocolate an easier medium to work with. You could essentially say that 100% chocolate is more natural and original than anything else you can buy. The true fact is that modern techniques have brought ‘real chocolate’ in to the realms of acceptability because despite only being cocoa solids and cocoa butter that you can still have an incredibly smooth and agreeable texture.

Just go all the way and get yourself raw cacao beans.

Lindt has a store in fourways. (At the design quarter)
You could call them first to ask if they have.

Yeah I've read similar tales, you're only supposed to eat tiny bits at a time. I'm just curious to taste it. I assume there's more to it than eating plain cocoa.

Woolworths has the Lindt 99% cocoa slabs in stock :) They are 50 g slabs for about the same price as the 100 g slabs. The squares are smaller and thinner.

I've had Lindt 99% and a few other 99% and 100% bars (usually quarter the size for twice the price). It is definitely a different experience - I like it, my brother likes it, but my dad spat it out in about 5 seconds flat. It does taste like cocoa, but only in the way that a spirit tastes like diluted rubbing alchohol. ;)

I really like the Lindt 99%, just a shame it's twice as expensive as the 90% (which is currently R29.50 for 100g at Clicks FYI)

Might go down well as a chaser with stout beer.

i was just informed that i can get 99% lindt chocolate. super excited. for my birthday i bought cacao nibs and those are real nice. its texture is a little like coconut and it's not sweet at all.

initially i thought dark chocolate was rubbish, but that's because the first "dark" "chocolate" i tried was bourneville. i gave lindt a shot and initially my wife didn't like it. after a while the 75% started tasting like milk chocolate, so we upgraded to 85%. more than that is too bitter for my wife, but i love the 90% bar.

i'm definitely going to go hunting for a 99%. :D
