Hi all

As per the thread title - at 7pm (not precisely) each weekday night, my line goes pear shaped. This is normally the time I want to play BF4, and my ping will erratically fluctuate between 15ms and anywhere up to 700ms...

At the time, only BF4 is running - so I'm sure its not anything on my network. And I've tried with Crystal Web, Ignite (IS) and WebAfrica accounts with negligible differences.

If I try download, my router shows me a graph of the traffic and throughput, and its very erratic - spikes and dips everywhere. If i look at the same graph at 5am it looks like table mountain, nice and smooth....

TelkomZA said via Twitter that my exchange is not congested... they did a port reset which didn't help, however a "hard reset" (whatever that means) seemed to fix it for 1 night.

I have an outstanding fault logged, but would be interested if this is a problem unique to me or whether its fairly common?

There are a few exchanges which are still congested and not much which can be done except for being moved to a different non-congested exchange really. Changing ISP's won't make a difference.

You could get lucky and have Telkom upgrade sometime soon, if not you are basically screwed unfortunately.

I suspect it is exchange congestion - however found it interesting that TalkomZA said that my exchange is not congested and that the "hard reset" fixed it temporarily...

I just RDPed into my home PC and see my connection is no longer syncing at 4096... seems there must be a line issue.Screen Shot 2014-09-11 at 1.29.54 PM.png

Sorry. are my torrents affecting this badly?

Yeah, that is really bad!

Best is to log a fault with Telkom then, get a technician out to take a look and see what is happening. Perhaps the wires aren't punched down proprely / came loose while a technician was working at the exchange.

I misread your original post, I thought TelkomZA said it was a congested exchange. My bad.
Line stats like that, certainly something wrong with the line somewhere.
