I've been having some major line issues for the last 2 weeks. Trying to deal with telkom this week has been beyond painful!

What happens is that I would lose all connectivity (i.e. i'd still be connected but i cant browse or do anything).

Then the second thing happening is that the line wouldn't lose sync but I'd disconnect from my ISP (mweb) and cant reconnect unless I restart the router (sometime this is listed as a IPCP error).

When I can browse like now, my line speedtests return results of only 1.72MBps :/

I've tried explaining this to the technicians who simply recreate the port and tell me everything is fine. I've had my port reset 7 times since yesterday morning without any result. So how the hell do I explain to them than even tho the line syncs ITS NOT FINE!!!!

I'm thinking it may possibly be the ****ty billion 400G POS router dying, but I dont have R700 to spend on a new router on a guess.

Eish I am also having problems also for about 2 weeks now. 7 Faults logged - 2 Times a tachnician came about for only 5-10 minutes only making matters worse than they was.. 5 other faults closed in less than a day, without anything even being done to the problem. Really k@k service from Telkom.

Coldon,

have you replaced the POTS filter. They're around R30 from telkom shops.

Pick up the handset & listen. Is there any static? If there is then you'll have to moan & bitch at them 'til they fix it & it can take a while, but first change the filter.

I've always had intermittent static on the line, one day its clean, the next its static heaven. I've tried the line straight into my router without any pots filter and its the same. I guess I should try get a cheap 1GB account and see if the problems persist...

Have been haing the same problems here since January 7, three faults logged already, the most recent at 6 tonight. The static on the line is so bad you can hardly hear the dail tone from the exchange, not to mention the frequent loss of sych on the ADSL line.

Removing the filters and just plugging in the router makes no difference.

well now my line speed is down to 1Mbps, sigh... gonna test with an afrihost account just now :/

using an afrihost account gives me the same speeds :/

I am going to go on the assumption that you live in Jo'burg or any other area that has been drenched over the last while.

It could be that water got into the manhole or streetbox. If that is the case you will have to rally a lot of people to also complain persistently for quite some time.

This happened here by me a while ago: took months to get them to resolve the problem.

After multiple complaints a technician admitted that there was water in the manhole where cables are housed. Normally this would not be a problem but as the cables in the manhole had apparently been underwater for 3 years & that thieves had been in their "making free phone calls" (cut the insulation on the outside of the cables ruining the waterproofing). The street box also had some damage allowing in rain & rusting with time.

This problem took approx 4 months to get resolved & there is a hospital accross the road from me. I believe the doctors were all complaining as the lines were either really bad or not working at all. They are responsible for saving peoples lives & need communication to work properly. Imagine being on call & you can't be contacted to go help?

telkom had to replace the damaged joins in the manholes & they built a brand new streetbox next to the old one before removing it.

So if your problem is similar you have a loooong struggle ahead.
