This keeps happening to me:

Suddenly my ADSL will go unusable and my attainable rate will drop from over 2meg to something like this:

Mode: ADSL_2plus
Type: ATM
Status: Up

Downstream Upstream
Line Coding(Trellis): On On
SNR Margin (dB): 478 173
Attenuation (dB): 340 195
Output Power (dBm): 140 130
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 572 684
Rate (Kbps): 378 511
D (interleaver depth): 1 1
Delay (msec): 0.13 0.24

HEC Errors: 479 3773
OCD Errors: 0 0
LCD Errors: 0 0

Total ES: 2117 0

I have to phone Telkom, and they do a port reset which temporarily fixes it.
It's not the ISP (Telkom) because no matter which account I use it doesn't help until the port is reset.

I don't know if it's related but the phone is really crackly as well.

Do I tell Telkom to come out and look at it? It's one of those irritating things that can be fixed so Telkom is useless at helping over the phone.

Sounds like it :( Make sure that all your phone lines have POTS filters on them :) This includes the Alarm if applicable.

Also - please would you run the tool in my sig, it will provide some info for us to work on :D Just copy the results from the txt file once it opens and paste it here :)

Z

Thanks, I shall run the tool tomorrow and post the results. The phone has a POTS filter.

If your line is crackly, then you need to log a fault. A noisy line will cause problems for ADSL too and not just voice. Also check that the filters are not faulty. Disconnect everything from your phone line including all filters and only connect your telephone. If it's clear, than your filter might be faulty. Disconnect everything again except your modem. If the line stats improve, then it's the filter.

+1 about the filters.

Those things can really mess up a connection

Looking just fine? Please would you run the following file (Stick it into a folder, it's gonna make a file called Results.txt).

Look at my speedtest though; my router is syncing at such a slow speed.

Okay, those bolded pings should be under 20ms :(

This indicates some form of line issue/exchange congestion :/

You'll have to report a line fault.

Good Luck!

Reported a fault. Every time I phone in the consultants just reset the port which fixes it for a bit but it always goes back. They don't seem capable of doing anything else.

It seems apart from that issue, whenever it rains the ADSL keeps disconnecting intermittently. I do hope they come fix it soon.

That sounds like your local DSLAM :/ Which means its quite easy to fix :)

Good Luck!
