Hi Guys,

So quick backstory, my line has always been pretty bad due to being far from the exchange, my attenuation is about 58db. But in the past two to three months my line has been much worse, it keeps on losing sync every night at about 8pm till 10 or sometimes 11. This happens on most nights, then it goes away for a week or so and then the problem comes back. Today I asked Telkom to drop my line to 2meg, and at exactly 8pm it dropped again, to be fair though it came back fairly soon and seems to be working now, but I cannot deal with having only 2meg I really need my 4!

I have a pretty cheap Trendnet router and I am not sure if this could be the issue, has anyone experienced similar problems have any advice? At this stage I am willing to try anything.

Yes, I have and there was another thread recently where others also experienced this. Telkom reset my port and that seemed to help a lot.

Same thing happens to me although my line stats are very good

Had 3 technicians over and none could help so far

I also have the same problem with my 4mb line, router D-link DSL-2750U (telkom) syncing drop from 7pm to 11pm, log a call and it is open for about 10 days the technician was at my house and don't have a clue what the reason is for this problem, the previous 2 calls to telkom was closed.

This problem exists for the past 3 months, from my experience don't reboot just remove the ADSL line from the modem for 1 min if the line drops.

Wow guys I did not realise this is an issue for so many people. It seems the consensus is Telkom has no idea and there does not seem to be a fix at the moment. Pretty bleak, going to put the line back on 4meg and try petie's idea next time it drops, thanks for the replies.

Simple things to try are changing out your POTs filters, cutting out any unneeded line extensions and putting the modem onto the first available port into the premises. Make sure there's no alarm/fax or something else on the line that isn't connected through a POTs filter first. But given that it's always at the same time, i would have to guess on the off chance that something close to the exchange is pulling a bit more power than usual causing the exchange to dip, or something along the line is interfering with your adsl signal before it reaches you.
