Hi All

I applied for ADSL recently and the lady at the Telkom shop said that my exchange/DSLAM (011 432) only supports up to 512K so I opted for 384K (fast). My questions are:

1) Why is my line syncing at 1024 Kbps when I applied for 384 Kbps? According to Telkom's system (saw it myself in the Telkom shop) my exchange only supports up to 512K?

2) Is it possible to connect at higher speeds? Ideally I want 4096 Kbps. Here are the stats from my modem:

Mode: ADSL_2plus
Traffic Type: ATM
Status: Up
Link Power State: L0

.......................................Downstream / Upstream
Line Coding(Trellis):..........On / On
SNR Margin (0.1 dB):.........254 / 160
Attenuation (0.1 dB):.........235 / 140
Output Power (0.1 dBm):....-85 / 22
Attainable Rate (Kbps):.......17808 / 1036
Rate (Kbps):.......................1024 / 511

Thanks for the help!

That is confusing! Phone 0800 375 375 and ask them what your current speed is as per your profile.

Look like 1024kbps.

I'd say that you should check your bill to ensure that you're indeed just paying for 384kbps, and that you should only phone Telkom if you're paying too much :)
Otherwise you'll be stuck on 384kbps again...

Thanks guys, afaik there's only 384(fast), 512(faster) and 4096-10M (fastest), so I will be paying for fastest ADSL, right? And is Telkom's system talking nonsense about the 512K max?

Have you verified your install yet? The line syncs at 1024/512 just after the ADSL is installed. It will drop to 384 once you've completed the verification step.

I only get an error message now from Telkom's online ADSL verifier. Before I got the confirmation sms it worked fine

If you can access websites other than Telkom.co.za, then you ADSL line is already verified.

So my line speed will drop to 384k once I've entered an ISP's username and password? I ideally want something higher than 512K but telkom says it is the max

I would actually reckon that as soon as you restart you router that it would drop to 384kbps. You can get like 1GB uncapped & unshaped for R19 from Axxess AFAIK.

Does anyone know where I can purchase some bandwidth RIGHT NOW? Just to test the line

I entered the username and password provided on the axxess prepaid slip, restarted the router several times and I cannot access the internet (I can access telkom.co.za though) FML :(
