Hi everyone.

I have a 4mbps line with webafrica which i would like to upgrade to 10.

I last checked my highest available line speed using telkom's adsl checker about 2 months ago and it said that the highest available speed in my area is 10mbps. Telkom's site now says that the max is 4, but when i log onto my account on webafrica's site, it says the max is 10.

Is it possible for there to be a discrepancy like that? Or has telkom just decided to downgrade my area for some reason?

It might just be the copper or that you live too far away from the exchange for 10Mbit.

Most exchanges have multiple DSLAMs so if the 10 meg DSLAM is full then the old DSLAM is the one that is left 4 meg .
What area in durbs are you in ? .
The line checker could be wrong .

I'm in Musgrave.

I don't think it's that. When i put my neighbour's number into the telkom site it says max is 10. It seems that since changing my line to 4mbps with webafrica, telkom's site now says that my max is 4 and webafrica don't want to let me upgrade. I'm definitely in a 10mbps area though.

Left hand side of silverton road from Musgrave ( Bellevue and silverton) upwards has a MSAN feed , not sure when the lower part is going to be done .
201 is the tolgate exchange .

I'm on vause road.

The thing that just doesn't make sense though, is that i was always picked up as a 10mbps line whenever i checked previously. Suddenly it says i'm 4mbps, even though i'm in a 10 area and everyone else around me is being picked up as 10. It just doesn't make sense. It' really frustrating.
