Line Syncing Perfectly but Not Authenticating with ISP...What Gives?

Howzit fellow webfreaks...so my issue is as stated in the title of the thread.

Tried the following:
-Tried different ISP accounts (Afrihost,WA,Telkom)
-Changed router
-Defaulted settings on router
-Changed DSL Modulation Type

What could be the problem?

What is your VCI and VPI on that router?

Authentication Problem on Exchange. Log a call.

Same S*** my side. Broadacres Johannesburg. I feel the need to punch someone in the balls.

Telkom is busy working on infrastructure apparently.

Some ISP's have relayed this info.

This could be your problem as well?

Also had the same issue since last night. Logged a ticket with Afrihost, and got the following reply:

"There is currently a no authentication issue in the greater JHB region as well as surrounding suburbs due to a telkom outage. Telkom is currently attending to this problem"

Thanks most valuable input I've had since 10:30 his morning. Which ISP's relayed this if I may ask?

AH's message on their page;

We are receiving intermittent reports of clients unable to authenticate on their DSL lines. This has been confirmed by Telkom as a fault on their network, however they have not been able to confirm which areas have been affected and the extent to which clients have been affected. We will update this notice as we receive further updates on the errors clients are experiencing.
We sincerely apologise to affected clients for the disruption to their services.

MWeb's message;
MWEB ADSL authentication services in the Greater JHB and surrounding suburbs. area may be inaccessible due to an outage. Logged on : 11-Jan 12:44
Start Date: 2015-01-11 12:44:05

Both Mweb and AH technical support were as useful as breasts on a nun, and Telkom... o well might just leave it there.

Thanks @Hectic

It is largely affecting customers in the Randburg and surrounding areas, and is caused by a Cisco bug. Telkom are planning to make changes at 10pm tonight, so don't expect anything to change until then on this front. Resetting your router won't help in all likelihood I'm afraid.

I've spent hours on hold with my ISP / Telkom, trying to get to the bottom of it.

Surely a problem this large should be published - and then people would not have to waste their time.

It's on all ISP's service desks, but was only updated by Telkom at 12:15pm today with the correct information.

Unfortunately not on WebAfrica --- and to add the Telkom techie who was here an hour ago, blamed my router, then my pc, then my ISP.

Yip, this should definitely have been communicated. I spent hours trying to troubleshoot the issue yesterday.

Yesterday?

No, your issue is unrelated to this, and you need to contact your ISP/Telkom/both to resolve. This is an isolated issue since this morning, and only affecting customers in the northern parts of Gauteng right now. Your ISP's support staff should be able to extract the logs of your authentication/disconnection and sort this out for you, or at least pinpoint the problem.

If you have a hassle, head over to our site www.crystalweb.co.za and tell them the Crystal Web rep on mybroadband said you can use one of our test accounts to troubleshoot your problem with. :)

You may find that it was a minor slip with the info reaching every support staff member. Sometimes with large teams this can be a challenge, but we've managed to automate the Telkom network update system into our core support systems now, knowing this.

I have forum members that have the same problem since yesterday, with different exchanges.

It might be unrelated, but there seems to be a problem somewhere which is not ISP related.

We can infer that there are some occasional issues, but in terms of what's on the Telkom side being supplied to ISPs in an official capacity, we know for a fact that Northern Gauteng is experiencing authentication issues right now, and will continue to do so until at least 10pm this evening, possibly later as well. If you're in, close, or if your connection routes via the Randburg area, you may not be able to authenticate. I'd suggest that if you are currently connected, you do not switch off or reset your connection.

Well I am in the region mentioned. Multiple ISP's tested and all the same so I am sure I am affected by the same issue.

Very possible. You're welcome to hop onto our chat system on our website and an agent can confirm in a few minutes for you. Or you can try via your ISP's support as well.
