Hi All

im thinking of maybe upgrading my 2MB line to 4MB, and removing the uncapped bit, and going capped. Im thinking of doing the 25GB with Vox, plus the uncapped bolt on.

the only concern for me, is that 25GB's would be too little. We only stream, but thats me, the missus and son. Im only during the evening and weekends, so the uncapped bolt on is great.

is this a good option? I did some calculations, and it will cost me about R53 more to do this deal.

Basically i think im paying around R583 for my uncapped 2MB line, whereas, i would be paying R189 Voice + R299 4MB line + R148 for the 25GB + Uncapped Bolt on. Thats a total of R636

Thats a difference of R53.

is this the way to go?

You are going to go from streaming at 480p - 720p which will eat through your cap in no time.

Streaming a whole Saturday for me uses over 10 gigs at 720p.

I'd ask me old ISP what my usage was and double it to see how much cap you are going to need.

no, ill still stream in 480p if im honest. i have no intention of going 720p. What i am finding, is that even my 480p videos are buffering like crazy, so i just need to somehow try and eliminate most of that, by still streaming in SD.

btw, im not a big user anyway. im on an uncapped package, and for 2 weeks, i literally used about 20GB's of data. on average i did about 1.5GB's a day streaming SD 480p and so on off Kodi

@Icemanbrfc - I'm guessing your current uncapped is with Telkom, or some other provider, other than Vox ?

If so, I'd try staying on your 2 Mbps line to first test and get the capped 25GB & bolt-on. I'm one of those who has Vox bolt-on and these days can stream on YouTube at 720p without buffering (only a bit in the beginning until the clips get going) .. on a 2 Mbps line myself.

Try that out before committing to a 4 Mpbs line. If your 480p is "buffering like crazy" then perhaps call Telkom first to try sort it out as it may be your ADSL line, or might be Kodi ?

EDIT : I'd recommend Vox nowadays, no matter your line speed (up to 10 Mbps, as that is their limit for bolt-on, last I read). Have been on that service since it was introduced by @lantic, so a good few years now.

ill have a look at my Kodi settings tonight, but will keep my line with Telkom, just wondering if i go with a capped account, if that will make a difference. As things are starting to buffer like crazy. I quite like that Vox deal, with 25GB data, and then uncapped after 6 to 6am, and on weekends open as well. That is not bad.

I seldom use the capped part of my Vox account (peak-times) which was called Gig4Gig when I got it, and certainly don't use it to stream, but pages load as quickly at peak-times as they do during bolt-on, unless there's a network problem, which is rare these days - think Vox sorted themselves out, eventually.

You should notice a positive difference between capped vs. uncapped, especially if it's been a cheaper uncapped (from what I've read, not personally experienced, apart from Vox's bolt-on).

My line is with Telkom & I wouldn't move it to any ISP.

Just take note that Vox have a R50 admin charge for signing up - just check if it's for the Fat Pipe and bolt-on or R50 for both combined ; I think they're the only ones who do that in SA, but you'll quicky forget about that irritating fact ! ... if your internet experience improves.

i asked about that before strangely, ie the R50 setup fee. Thats the weirdest thing out of all the ISP's, to charge a set up fee. What are they setting up?

does anybody know, what it would cost for the following?
Voice
4MB Line
50GB data

all with Telkom
