Hi,

Say I've got a couple of pc's. And then i have a server. All the pc's are currently directly linked on the network to the router. I want all of them to link through the server for internet access and not through the router. This way hopefully being able to restrict and filter sites more appropriately. How would i go about doing this?

Regards,
Graeme

Smoothwall
Works like a charm.

You didn't say what OS.?? Smooothwall is great for linux.
CCProxy works great for windows, small, simple, easy to use if you don't know what you doing - even with only one NIC.

um

Smoothwall does not discriminate against any OS by the way. It will Seamlessly work with ANY os out there that can connect to its nic. Thats why I recommended it. It's a cheap solution as most people have an old PC standing somewhere gathering dust.

CCProxy.....my Smoothwall eats CCProxy for breakfast each morning. Easy Easy. :p

Oops, my bad. Didn't know there was a windows version.

I agree with you completly tho.
ccproxy is a silly little basic app by comparison.

I just thaught if he was running a NT/2K/2003 server I know that it works quite well on all those platforms.

lol

A windows version is not available no, but What I mean is what Smoothwall works with any OS. It's like your ADSL Router. You run it on a separate PC.

While Smoothwall is almost a set and forget type of program, CCProxy needs allot of work for each PC that enters the LAN. Too much settings and things that can go wrong.

I'll take Smoothwall thx!

Aah, i missed the plot completly, lol

I see what you saying, but that's assuming he's not useing his server for anything else and is happy to toast the current OS (unless it is already a linux box).

And if that is the case - I would also take smoothwall anyday! :)

Even beats ISA handsdown for functionality, reliability and easy of use.

He can still use the server for whatever he want to! Thats why I like Smoothwall so much. You don't need to change much. Just install smoothwall onto another PC, connect it to the adsl router and network, done! :D

afaik
