Does anyone know if Vodacom still offers this router with any of the data contracts?

Looking to switch over to 3G... but definitely need a router to share it between my pc, laptop and cellphone.

Not sure if they offer it but we just bought a D-Link DI-451 which can take either a USB modem or a PCIMIA. Setup took 2 minutes since the settings for mtn and vodacom are already in.

We bought it at dealer prices for R1300 from pinnacle micro.

Sexy looking device as well.

to my knowledge, no.
Can't really remember any point of time they did, but i could be wrong there.

You can get a contract with the datacard and just buy the router separately...

Hmmm, the D-Link one doesn't have an additional port for an Ethernet based internet.

Going to have to stick with the Linksys one... but great for low cost installations that aren't going to change....

There was an option for this (probably still is), think it was about R60 more on the contract. But rather phone a Vodashop (or two).

Then look at the Billion models as well. It lets you fail-over between ADSL and 3G.

Syrinx Communications have a Draytek 2820 modem that supports the latest Huawei & Novatel 7.2Mb/s download 3G USB adaptors. It has a ADSL port, Ethernet port for WAN, 4 LAN ports and can do IPSec & can run a VPN Server. Works well when u need to do Port based NAT, and other advanced features. The 2820n has WIFI as well. Failover from ADSL to 3G and vice versa works well when running IPSec tunnels also. U can get them with analog phone ports as well.

I got a new Linksys 3g router with Option Express last month. It was not on their list but they but they did it with no extra charges.

3g router

yes they are still available at an additional R79 per month over and above your 3 g package

Is this good or bad ?
Ya, hopefully type approval & policy depts are seperate.

Anyways the 2820 range seem to be very featureful however the one negative point is the single Gigabit port. For that money I would expect a full 4 port Gig switch, say like on the Billion 7402NX.
