Linksys Routers And Billion 7402 Model

Hi Guys

Can anyone tell me who are the Linksys director importers of routers in sa .
also does any one have the Billion 7402 adsl router wired not wireless.
i would like to know between the two which are the best of the two and your feedback if good .
 
7402 and 7402G

Hi

The 7402 and 7402G have exactly the same functionalities and features, the only difference is that the 7402G has added wireless capabilities.

I would suggest you go for the 7402G, because even if you are not going to use the 7402G for its wireless capability, it is still good to have in future.

MWeb business has recently switched to the Billion 7402G for their VPN solutions, or so I've heard. I'm convinced that such a company will have a huge team of product specialist that closely scrutinze the units before they start implementing them in their solutions. So, you can't go wrong.

Also SA-Computer magazine (June 2005) had a broadband router shootout article and they had only good things to say about the Billion 7402G. It scored full marks!!!
 
There is another one coming soon (Draytek.co.za, made in TW, they are currently in the process of getting ICASA approval). this one has got an unique function,

Virtual LAN (VLAN) facility

* Divides the Ethernet ports to provide common or exclusive Ethernet access to the other segments.

Port-based rate throttling capability

* Each of the four 10/100 Base Tx Ethernet ports can be limited to a maximum throughput. e.g. Port 1 could be set to provide max 256Kb/s to prevent individual users, or LAN branches from consuming too much of your broadband bandwidth. Selectable 32Kb/s increments per port.

that is a very useful function when you share your line with others and only expensive switches has got VLAN function

Take a look at the BILLION 7202G. It's loaded with features (VLAN included) and at a great price (I think its under R900 @ jump.co.za).

I don't think we are talking same language, VLAN is not VPN or something else, I didn't see any VLAN function in 7402, correct me if i'm wrong.

The 7202G is the router with VLAN and
the 7402G is the router with VPN (IPSEC, L2TP & PPTP)

no, I couldn't agree with you, where did you see the 7202(G) support VLAN?
 
From 7202G main menu:

Configuration > Advanced > VLAN

I see its not listed on the spec sheets on Billionsa.com, but trust me... it's there!

GU7 is actually correct - the 7202G does support VLAN. You can have a look under Configuration->Advanced->VLAN ;)
 
if you say so. because i only had a glance of 7202(G)'s interface when i was doing support for our client, i didn't go that deep, but all docs form Billion.com, no one words about VLAN config

sorry, finally found it on manual aoubt VLAN setting, but how about port based bandwidth limit?

Billion 7402G and Linksys WAG54G

Just changed my Linksys WAG54G to Billion 7402G. From my point of view it is an upgrade. better Wireless Coverage and better web interface. I initialy looked for a router with Built-in QoS, and the Billion was the answer. But to the downside I seem to have an erratic DSL link dropping often. Probably the extensive DSL config confused me. What should I use ? Annex A ADSL2 ADSL2+? Any Tech guy arround to advise best config on Billion for SA DSL?

Billion 7402G and Linksys WAG54G part II

I really tought these technolgies were backward compatible. I did set it to G. Lite Annex A And I will monitor the link. for the moment I seem to have loss of Xdsl Line sync around once every 60 minutes
 
Hmm. Might be a bad connection or line. I would report it to Telkom if I were you. The sooner the better so they can get a Techie out there.
 
defintely and for once not Telkom. I plugged my linksys back in and the system was running perfectly. For sure a mis-configuration with Billion.
 
OK billion SA support are great. they sent me the latest Firmware 5.02f.rc2 I am monitoring the link (I sound like saix noticeboard) but so far so good
 
If you're still struggling on the setup,

i know we, here is SA, use : g.dmt & normal ADSL (ADSL 1) on Annex 1
 
The new firmware does not offer these options, But ADSL2+ with autofall back and G.dmt Plus works nicely the link is up for 48 hours with only 2 mandatory telkom IP change disconection
