Linksys WRT54G Routers - R610

Lately. I've come across a site that sells WRT54G LINKSYS at only R610 about from PCMALL www.pcmall.co.za
I recently bought that very same router from PCMall and was very pleased with the experience, both in terms of the service from PCMall (was delivered within 1 day to East London) as with the performance of the router (reaches my basement whereas my previous one (Belkin) did not).

I don´t know if it does POE. According to some websites it takes external antannas, but when I tried to remove the antennas on mine, I couldn´t get that to work. I may be missing something.

FYI, they shipped me version 3.2 and that was about 3 weeks ago.

I have purchased three WRT54G's from PCMall and have had excellent service each time. The last time I bought one (a ver 3.1) I placed the order at 07:45 am
and had it in my hands less than two hours later.

The WRT does not do POE but you can put an injector on the one end and split it out the other end.

or you can just cut the plug off the power adapter, and use the unused blue and brown pairs in your cat5 up to the roof, and stick the plug back on at the top.

I have done this for all three of mine, and works perfectly... The one length of Cat5 is about 30m... No Problems...

wrt54g's are the best!

no poe!

but they do take external antennas

DD-WRT now supports OpenWrt packages. I may be wrong, but I don't think OpenWRT has a nice web based configuration/management system, its all done via the command line. So that could be a disadvantange for OpenWrt on its own....depending on what you want to do.

Yes, but you should know that doing so voids the warantee!
If you flash it back to the linksys one how would they know? And if its dead, they would not check what was on there before anyhow.

i use alchemy software on my linksys's, works great, no crashes either

Just to let you know PCMALL has Version 5 :((
I've just could get my hands on Last Version 3.1 Linksys from a Supply just waiting for payment to be positive...
I should Receive them by tomorrow.

V5 apparently is not linux and thefore not easy to reflash.
I bought 2 WRT54Gs from pcmall in the last 3 weeks and both were v4.
I hope that does not mean there are no more v4s in stock as I want a few more!
Apparently Linksys have a WRT54GL which is the Linux v4 version and they will continue to sell that as they know its a popular platform. Dont know if that will be available localy.
