Cloud certifications done and actually looking to get better at Linux.
Any recommendations on a path to follow or not worth the energy?

In the corporate world it's mostly Red Hat - as it's a hands on exam --> you can't do --> you can't pass.
Linux Foundation also have decent hands on Linux exams (not quite as on par / in demand as RH, but decent).

RHCSA (RH certified system admin) --> RHCE (RH certified system engineer) --> RHCA (RH certified architect).

I'm a RHCA and you'll learn a lot from RH exams.

Additionally check out some of Sander's material - like this or his RHCSA / RHCE tracks to learn more about Linux or Red Hat in general.

One part that hasn't been mentioned on the forums. Linux skills are apparently lacking in SA.
What are the salary bands for experienced okes in the industry?

Thanks to everyone that's replied so far

Just Linux won't get you all the far nowdays. (At the top end for JUST Linux - it's probably 1 bar)

You need a mix of Linux, DevOps (in terms of tooling think Ansible / Terraform / Docker / Kubernetes etc), some form of Cloud / CI/CD bits etc to really hit the ceiling.

If you can hit a good K8s type consulting role - you can hit 2 bar in SA as the ceiling - but that's an IBM or a big boy employer and you really have to be competent and willing to wear quite a few hats.

Been in Software Development for a while and leaning into DevOps a bit. Investigating ITSec as well thus all my questions.

Slightly worrying as those figures are achievable at-least 1-1.5 bar just doing Dev :/

Yeah - locally the cap is probably 1.2'ish - you need a foreign employer to really get much past that. You also need a relatively wide skillset - lots of different tooling / cloud providers / ability to code some what etc.

Plan is Ireland in 5 years or so and AWS in 3 to get them on my CV.

Anyone have the costs of the RH certs?

Yeah devops won't get paid more than Dev IMO

I am doing the Linux Foundation Cloud Engineer Bootcamp and the outcome is to be Linux SysAdmin and Certified Kubernetes Admin in 6 months. It's quite hands on and the exams are also hands on. You learn everything from Linux to containers and devops then finally Kubernetes. Its decent. You can check it out

Is it beginner friendly or do you need prerequisites ?

Theres DevOps and then there's DevOps, lot of buzz around the words/phrase and a lot of places just use the name for what used to be basically build chains and infrastructure, there aren't many companies that do full dynamic devops ie: infrastructure as code, kurbs etc

Yaml, yaml, yaml :p

Beginner friendly :)
Let me reword this . Absolutely 0% experience :whistling:

I am actually really considering to do this :p

I see they have online classes I think ? Are these a must because I can't imagine its timezone friendly lol

@Pho3nix sorry don't mean to steal your thread

It should still be fine. Give it a gander!

Purpose of the thread is to learn so no issues stealing.
