+1

you need a powerhouse that is distro independent to push this.

but more interestingly, so what if there are less than 1% desktops that run linux? how does that make your experience any worse?

if yo have this mentality, i can only assume that you feel Windows has deficiencies. But won't Linux be forced to have these deficiencies if it has to cater for different wants; rather than improving on what the people who like it want? the people who like it will want evolution. new users will want it to be windows if you go the en masse route.

EDIT: If Windows gets 99.5% and Linux has 0.5% usage in 2050. It's fine as long Linux still meets your needs. Of course, even in such a situation someone will create something new to meet the needs of those who want something different.

But keep in mind, there is no Linux goal that states that x amount market share is wanted. which is a great thing. Linux will survive as long as there is one person who likes it.
